" What would you like for breakfast, Miss Eunhye?, Martha asked me, as she moved around the kitchen.
"Anything.", I mumble, while taking a seat at the dining table.
" Can I ask you something?" I asked after contemplating a lot, to which Martha gave a sweet smile and nodded.
"At what time did Mr. Kim come home last night?", I ask her. She hesitated to reply. And I saw her faking a smile.
"He came around 1 am and then left at 5, ma'am."
I sighed, thinking how it had been more than a week since I saw him last, at the party. That night, driver Lee had come to inform me that he would drive me home when I was strolling in the garden with Jimin-sshi. I haven't seen Taehyung since then. According to Martha, he comes home late and leaves early. I'm not sure if he even comes home. Is he avoiding me? I wanted to confront him about so many things. But how can I ,when he hasn't given me any authority over him as his wife?
I try not to think about it so much since this was just a contractual marriage.
"Cheer up, ma'am. Today is your first day of college.", Martha tried to cheer me up.
"Master said he'll pick you up later after class.", she smirked at me and I felt my whole mood brighten.
---At the University--
I am so nervous. There are students loitering around the whole campus, some handing out flyers, others talking and laughing and messing around. They were already friends. I looked like the only loner there. Nevermind, it's nothing new for me so I decide to go find my classes.
The college premises was huge. I was scared I would get lost and be late to class so I straightaway headed to check out the campus map at the bulletin board.
It was so hard to pinpoint my exact location. Before the others could crowd at the bulletin board, I took a pic of the map on my phone.
"Hey!", someone tapped on my shoulders. I turned to see a petite brunette behind me. She was beautiful with light brown eyes and she had a porcelain complexion.
She blushed when she saw me staring at her.
"I saw you taking a pic of the map. Can you please send it to me?", she asked.
I frowned at her request. She could've taken a pic herself. But she was too cute to resist.
"Yeah, sure.", I smile at her, much to her delight.
"I'm Kim Wooju, first year Art student."
"I'm Lee...umm Kim Eunhye, freshman, medical science.", I answered.
'Why can't I still get familiar with my new surname?'
We talked as we walked to our department buildings. Wooju seemed very nice and we got along.
First day was new but tiring. I enjoyed the classes. I was glad none of the professors noticed me, for I didn't want unnecessary attention on myself. I would just manage my studies while staying invisible. I hope my semester goes well.
Taehyung texted me saying he would be there in fifteen minutes. I would be lying if I say I wasn't nervous and happy.
I was walking down the street when I felt something tug at my arms. It was Wooju. She was smiling like a baby.
"How was your day today?", she asked me as we walked hand in hand. She was already treating me like a close friend. I was a bit flustered at her closeness.
"It was good. Yours?", I asked.
"Great! College is fun!", she exclaimed. I wanted to tell her not to jump to conclusions since it was only the first day but I didn't. She was a very happy go lucky girl and I didn't want to come across as a pessimistic person to her.
"Can I ask you two questions?", she asks, abruptly. I was hesitant, looking at her seriousness.
"Sure.", I finally mumble.
"You look different. I mean, good different. But you aren't-" I could tell she was having difficulty forming her words and since I already got a feeling of where she was going, I responded,
" My father wasn't Korean. I don't know much about him because I was raised by my grandmother". I could see from her expressions that she was still confused and obviously wanted to ask more but I had only met her that day to be telling her so much about me. Besides, I was at no better standing than her for I knew very little about my parents. That part of my life was always concealed from me while growing up.
"What's the second question?", I asked her which brought her out of her thoughts. I smiled at her clueless expression. She was too cute.
"Umm...at that time, you were a bit confused about your surname. You said 'Lee' then 'Kim'. I wanted to ask you about it.", she asks, sheepishly.
What should I say to her? I cannot tell her I'm married. What would she think? I want to have a peaceful and low-profile college life.
Just then, my phone beeping saved me. It was a text from Taehyung saying he had arrived. A rush of happiness coursed through me.
"I've to go. Bye. I'll see you tomorrow.", I exclaimed.
"Oh-okay.", she murmurs. Before she could ask anything else, I was already jogging towards the car which had just pulled in, on the street.
