Hi everyone. I'm new to writing, this is my very first story. I would appreciate it if you left your comments. Thanks.

Prologue

The grass glistened with the morning dew. The wind carried the scent of fresh rain, and the smell of maple and pine trees. All types of birds were bouncing around on the ground; chirping calling their friends to come join them. Squirrels scurried the oak trees playing with one another.

These were the mornings of the forest calm and relaxing. A cool breeze littered the air, swaying the grass. Though, the animals did not mind. They enjoyed its loving touch.

Many animals were playing in the field now. Several deer began to fun through the field disturbing the birds. The birds did not mind; they simply would land and begin anew. Even a few bear cubs were out; playing with each other.

The early morning flowed into the late afternoon. Most of the animals have departed in the search of more food. A few creatures remained. The deer huddled together in the shadow of an oak tree. The squirrels rested above them, warn out from collecting acorns all day. The bear cubs remained in the sun resting in the open meadow. Today had been an amazing day.

The afternoon flowed into the night. The light was taken from the world so fast it seemed to slip into the abyss. It was a beautiful night to layout under the sun.

The last of the deer cleared the meadow, returning to their den. The bear cubs remained in the clearing, running in the meadow. Their mother entered the clearing calling to the cubs; hearing their mother they came rumbling to their mother. The squirrels, having gathered enough acorns, returned to their nest for a much needed sleep.

Midnight seemed to rush into the world. The wind left nothing but a whisper in the air. Bugs, that had been calling all night, remained quiet. The other animals slept quietly in their homes. It was to be a peaceful night.

The sun peeks over the trees, lighting the forest floor. Light reflecting off of the clouds brought this primitive crimson color to life. The color seemed to bounce to every lake and pond, looking as if they were ablaze. These were the signs of a hot day. The animals never strayed into the sun, spending their day in the shade or in a pond.

The heat of the day was unbearable. Remaining in the shadows the elf made his way to the creek. The dew felt good on his bare feet. Smelling the air he caught aroma of multiple flowers and trees. The sight of the forest in the morning, even one like this, would take the breath form anyone. Yet; not this elf, he has seen the forest like this for years.

Hearing the sound of rushing water, the elf knew he was close. The elf made his way through the rest of the trees. The brightness of the sun over took him, its warmth washing over him like a hot bath. Once his eyes had adjusted to the drastic change in light, he made his way to the creek bed.

The elf began to fill his water skin. Feeling the cool water against his fingers, he decided to go for a quick swim. He quickly slipped out of his clothes. The elf plunged into the water; it felt good on his hot skin.

After stroking his way across and up the creek, he let himself float back down. He was hesitant to leave the creek, the water was so inviting today. As he made his way to the side of the creek, he caught a distant giggling. He dived back into the water as he saw caught a glimpse of a small girl. When he emerged he looked to her hiding spot to find her gone. He quickly grabbed his clothes and returned to camp.

Chapter 1

Despite the heat of the day, the night was cool. Vicven perched in his tree watching for any sign of movement, slowly turning his head to keep watch on the whole forest floor. Over the years Vicven has trained himself to pay close attention to every slight movement. All was going well, not much had happened on this quiet night. While turning back to the west he noticed a group of merchants. The merchants were making their way along the trail to Cormyr. He watched as they walked past his hiding spot a few yards away. One man had a great bear like beard with thick broad shoulders. Another was rather small with not much weight on him, looking as if a small child could overtake him. Yet something was different about this group of travelers; they seemed to have this aura that would draw creatures to them. Although everything in him told him not to give away his position, something told him that these merchants were in grave danger.
