Chapter 5
The swords sliced through the air, passing by their targets mere inches away. The clang of steel meeting rang through the streets, inevitably bothering the neighbors around the inn. Vicven and Jamgretor matched each other’s steps perfectly. It had been three long days since that night in the tavern, three days of nothing.
“Keep your mind in the fight Vicven,” Jamgretor said, he was always one to point out a mistake. “Or you could end up dead.” He finished his sentence with harshness, and a violent swing. Vicven easily rolled out of the way.
“How about you worry about yourself Jamgretor,” He said as he bounced up off the ground and preformed a double spin. Which Jamgretor easily evaded away from.
“I think I can take care of myself.” Vicven unleashed a rather high jump attack. Jamgretor noticed his mistake and acted quickly on it. As Vicven came back to the ground from his jump attack, Jamgretor’s sword was well placed underneath his chin. Vicven accepted his defeat and placed his sword on the ground.
“Next time, you should listen to what I say.” Jamgretor said as he placed his swords back in their scabbards. Vicven and Jamgretor made their way back into the inn. Eilstina’s aunt had been nice enough to let Jamgretor and Ga’laick stay in the inn with them. Eilstina sat in their usual table in the back. Vicven and Jamgretor made their way to her.
“Hey Eilstina, how are you today?” Jamgretor said romantically. His eyes quickly wandered over her as he spoke. He thought she would be a nice prize “under” his belt. Vicven noticed Eilstina look, and quickly changed the subject.
“Eilstina, where is Ga’laick?” Vicven asked as he suddenly noticed that he was not there with her. Eilstina looked up at Vicven, their eyes met and Vicven froze. He loved to look into the gorgeous eyes, deep mystical brown he could get lost in those eyes forever.
“He went to the market, to try and buy us some food for when we all leave.” She said as she arose from her seat and walked away. She had not been happy with Vicven since he had decided to stay, and was now furious with him for letting two other people join their journey. Jamgretor quickly sled into her vacant seat, and looked at Vicven.
“Well, aren’t you going to sit down?” He joked. Vicven noticed that he was still looking at the spot where Eilstina had vanished. Vicven sat down and began to sharpen his falchion; he loved that sword more than anything in the world nothing would ever happen to it. Jamgretor looked around the inn, multiple kinds of people roamed its insides, finding nothing to look at he turned his attention to the window.
“VICVEN LOOK THERE,” he shouted. “SOMETHING IS ON FIRE!” Vicven bolted from his chair, knocking it over; he sheathed his sword and plunged out the door.
Vicven felt the heat from the flames as he approached the building, yet he was still several buildings down. Jamgretor, Eilstina, and Ga’laick raced towards him.
“Vicven, what are we going to do? We can’t fight a house fire.” Jamgretor said as he reached Vicven. Vicven let the message sink in; it took him only a moment to register his answer.
“We may not be able to help much but we can still help.” Vicven bolted again running towards a building a few houses down from the burning one.
“Eilstina, come with me, I need you.” He shouted over his shoulder. She immediately darted after him, running full speed. Jamgretor looked at Ga’laick, with a worried look on his face.
“W-W-What are we supposed to do?” Jamgretor stuttered out as he saw Vicven and Eilstina scale the side of the building. Ga’laick looked around he saw multiple men running with buckets of water towards the fire.
“We’re going to help put out the fire, quickly follow me.” The pair raced towards the fire ready to face what is to come.
Vicven pulled Eilstina up the last couple of feet, placing her steady on the roof top. They made their way towards the next roof. Even though the gap was not more than two feet in front of him, to Vicven it seemed to take far too long to reach it, Vicven putting on a final burst of speed soared high over the alley below; landing safely on the opposite house.
“Come on Eilstina. We have to help.” Vicven urged her.
Eilstina heard Vicven’s words but it was one thing to think something then to actually do something. Eilstina moved closer to the gap and peered over the edge, it would be a long fall if she didn’t make it. She took a deep breath and exhaled taking several steps back. Eilstina took off at full speed and launched herself into the air. The leap seemed to last hours in Eilstina’s mind. There it was the ledge only mere inches in front of her. Her heart fluttered; she was almost there she had made it. In her joy; she didn’t notice the ledge being to rise up towards her, her heart dropped faster than she was dropping, she was going to die. As the ledge was about to pass her face, two hands wrapped around her out stretched hand, preventing her from falling to her doom; Eilstina was safe for now at least. She looked up into the eyes of her saver, and saw none other than Vicven looking back at her.
“You didn’t think I was going to let you die; did you?” He said with an annoying smirk on his face. Eilstina just glared at him.
“Shut up and pull me up,” was all she said to Vicven, he did as she asked and pulled her from the edge. They quickly dashed across the remainder of the buildings.
Ga’laick raced towards the building with a bucket of water in his hand. They seemed to be having little to no effect against the raging fire. He noticed Jamgretor a few paces behind him, they could stop the fire if they stayed at this pace he reassured himself. Ga’laick flung the water towards the burning building. It seemed to evaporate before it touched the fire.
“What now Ga’laick, I don’t think we are helping.” Jamgretor said. Ga’laick stared at the fire. He couldn’t think of what to do next.
“Ga’laick what should we do?” Jamgretor asked again. Ga’laick shushed him quickly. A noise had caught his attention. Several seconds passed before he realized the source of the noise.
“Jamgretor run.” Ga’laick screamed. They bolted form the building, but they were too late, the source slammed into the building causing the wood to explode sending them flying across the street.
