What Now?

It had been a week since the group made it back to the Salvatore School. Penelope was getting better. There was still the occasional scratch and bruise, and of course her arm. Besides that, she was better. Emma made an elixir for the younger witch. It was working wonders.

Penelope's recovery, however, was the only good thing to come from the group's arrival. It seemed as if everything and everyone was on pause. There was an unresolved between the twins, and Alaric didn't know what to do to help them. He had tried to sit them down and talk it out. That resulted in a fight that almost got physical. Alaric learned two things that day: 1. Don't talk bad about about Penelope in front of Josie, and 2. Lizzie hates it when you don't  talk bad about Penelope.

Basically Alaric can't win either way.

Josie went to see Penelope everyday. Their relationship was weird. Like, they would talk about simple stuff, and other things that didn't mean anything to either of them. That's what Josie's problem was; they didn't talk about what they needed to. There were a lot of topics that needed to be discussed, but neither of them had the guts to bring up. Josie doesn't exactly know why their dynamic is so weird. They were fine on the mission. Josie has a couple of ideas why. The main one though, is that... maybe the pair being outside of the school environment was a wake-up call (about how they felt about each other). And maybe them coming back to the school was kind of a 'Oh. I have to hate you again.' situation.  Either way, it was taking a toll on their relationship.

That was another big thing Josie needed to talk about. She needed to know what they were. She didn't know, and that is a huge problem. If there's one thing about Josie that everyone knows, is that she needs to know stuff. Not because she has to be better than everyone. That's not it. It's mostly that... the unknown scares the crap out of her. When she was dating Penelope, there was something fun about adventures and mysteries. But now, when the mystery involves her and Penelope, she felt like she was drowning. On the "rescue mission" Josie realized that she was still in love with her. It was a bittersweet revelation. She was glad to finally acknowledge her feelings, but she didn't know whether they were reciprocated.

Penelope had told her that she loved her multiple times before. Josie just never fell for it. Josie was so used to being a shadow. Her sister's, her father's, Hope's. Anyone's, really. Being the main focus was really different for her. It didn't help that the person who gave her the attention was none other than the HBIC. Aka, the pretty hazel-eyed girl who she's known all her life. Whenever Penelope would tell her that she loved her, Josie would tell herself that she didn't mean it. Or  that she only said to mess with Josie's mind.

What she didn't know, was that every time Penelope said she loved her, she meant it. Now, Penelope wasn't one to be kind and soft. At least, not to a stranger. Or Lizzie. Or her peers. Basically, the only people who ever got to see the real  Penelope Park were Josie and Emma.

And Josie will admit, that even if Penelope's words were untrue in anyway (even though they weren't), it was nice to get the attention for once in her life.
