April is Kongpob's favourite month of the year, whatever the odd reasons behind that could be. Maybe it was because of those flowers that bloom prettily in his now abandoned backyard. It could be because whenever spring came, everyone seemed a little bit livelier than before, even the grumpy old lady at the cafeteria gave him that disturbing creepy smiles whenever he passed by . And maybe because one of his favourite football players was born in April.
It was just another normal day where Kongpob could be seen strolling around the university, both of his hands were stuffed into his pockets as he closed his eyes, not giving any care towards the world around him. He desperately needed some fresh air to clear his messy head. A shiver suddenly ran down his spine as he suddenly recalled last night's event.
Last night was.... a disaster.
The sound of shattered glass echoed throughout their shared apartment and the now red eyes Arthit was rummaging through the kitchen's cabinet, trying to find something else to throw at his younger boyfriend. Kongpob, who previously managed to dodge Arthit's second attempt to hurt him, tried to take a step closer to his lover and hopefully talk some senses into him.
" P'Arhit! Stop! Stop it!"
" Don't come near me or I'll fucking slaughter you!" Arthit's face turned redder and Kongpob was so afraid he will explode.
" This is all your fault, you heartless monster! I told you before I wasn't ready for this and you promised you'll wait!"
Kongpob froze at his spot and ran a hand through his hair. " What have I done?! Tell me P so I can fix this!"
" No!! The damage has been done and I hate you, I fucking hate you!!"
When Arthit finally realized how clueless Kongpob was, he took something out from his pocket and threw it directly to Kongpob's face.
Ignoring the pain he felt on his nose, Kongpob kneeled down to pick out the object and widened his eyes when he saw what it was.
A pregnancy test, with two lines on it.
" I hate you so fucking much!! I hate you! I hate you!" Screamed Arthit as he went to Kongpob and repeatedly hitting the taller's chest.
" P'Arhtit...."
" What are you gonna do now, mr smartass?!"
The air suddenly turned heavy, suffocating both of them. Kongpob kept eyeing the tiled floor above his feet, lost for words. What is he supposed to do? This was not someone asking him to help them with assignments, this was not something related to Physics and Mathematics, this was not just a simple matter that he could just ignore. This is more than anything, a matter that will cost him something he never wanted to lose; their relationship.
" Kong, you always know what to do and say. You're always so smart. In our relationship, you're always the one initiating stuffs so why are you so quiet now.." the elder guy has calmed down and was now staring at Kongpob sadly, hoping something good would come out from that pretty mouth of his.
Sighing deeply, Kongpob looked at his lover in the eyes before slowly leaving the kitchen. When he came back, he brought his suitcase together with his other things and headed towards the door.
Arhit panicked as he ran after Kongpob, tears starting to pool in his orbs."Kong! Kongpob, what the fuck do you think you are doing??? Are you gon' leave me just like that?!" Kong?! KONGPOB!"
Silence.
He finally managed to catch up and went to grab the younger guy's left hand, preventing him from leaving.
"Look at me in the eyes and tell me our relationship meant nothing to you." Arthit held his breath, at this very exact moment, he was beyond broken. Kongpob then stared at him longingly and pulled him for a hug. Carefully, he peeled Arhit's hand off him and went down to Arhit's flat tummy. Arthit's breath hitched when the cold breeze hit the exposed part of his body and a tear escaped from his right eye when Kongpob placed a kiss on his stomach.
" Grow up well, daddy's little munchkin."
The door closed and Arthit slumped into the floor. He cried and hugged both of his knees close to his chest. He didn't care if his neighbours were disturbed, he didn't care even if they all come banging at the door, telling him to be quiet.
Right now, there were just him, his unborn child and the apartment that suddenly seemed too big and lonely. Arthit was a sobbing mess, he buried his head in his knees and kept on crying for hours.
Fucking coward.....
Arhit's POV
" Hey Knot, are you busy?"
" What's wrong with your voice? Did you just cry?" I smiled slightly, this was not surprising coming from him. He noticed everything, even the slightest details.
" Nah, just having a lil bit of fever."
" Fucking liar, you were perfectly fine this morning. You chased ai'Bright all the way to the class. Don't ever think of lying to me."
" Ouch, don't be too harsh on me khun Knot." I could hear him sighing on the other line and suddenly I felt guilty for disturbing him so late at night.
" Am I disturbing you? I'm sorry, you must be sleepy. I'll just hang up now-"
" I'm coming over in 10 minutes and you better tell me what the hell happened or else I'm feeding you to the sharks."
I giggled at his joke and my heart somehow felt at ease. I hang up after I gave him the permission to come over. Approximately 10 minutes after that, Knot arrived at my door step and I welcomed him in. Judging from the way his eyes wandered around the slightly messy living room, I could tell he was searching for a certain someone.
" Are you hungry? I'll go get some snacks."
" Where the heck is Kongpob?"
I didn't reply and pretended I wasn't hearing. As I was about to make my way towards the kitchen, Knot came right in front of me and embraced me tightly. It felt warm but suffocating at the same time.
I ended up telling him everything that has happened between me and my boyfriend. Come to think about it, are we still boyfriends? He left without uttering any words, except those that were directly said to our child. Our? As if they were still 'us' to begin with.
" That bastard, I'll fucking murder him." Knot was raging with wrath and I pat his back, trying to calm him down.
" No, please don't. You wouldn't want this little guy to be fatherless right?" I joked, trying to lighten up the tense atmosphere just now.
" Wait, wait. How do you know it's a boy?"
" Instinct."
Knot looked at me in disbelief and laughed a little. "Correction, mother's instinct."
" You lil piece of sh-"
" No, little guy. Your mommy is not cursing. He was gonna say sushi, yes sushi." I laughed out loud and Knot smiled at me. We talked about some random things for a while and I bid him goodbye when the clock strikes 2.
Rubbing my stomach, I suddenly had the urge to smile. Even if Kongpob rejected him, even if Kongpob threw both of us away, I'm not going to abandon this growing life inside of me. Until now, I still couldn't believe that my whole life turned upside down in just one day. This morning, I was complaining to Kongpob about how hard the exams are gonna be and tonight, we already parted ways.
Life is so weird, isn't it?
"I'll raise you well."
Spring might be Kongpob's favourite season but this year, his spring was completely ruined and he only got him himself to be blamed for.
