Simon's pov:
“Thank you, you can keep the change” I said to the taxi driver. The rain was pouring down like hell. Worst day not to bring a car. Though it was only 5, the weather was glooming because of the rain and the strong winds. Running up to my front door, the little thing in front of it made me shudder...
He was still on his school uniform, sweaters dripping wet from the water. The raindrops made his hair much darker than it really is. He sat at the corner of my porch, curing up, dozing off. I crouched to his level. He buried his face on his knee. I swallowed the knot in my throat “baby-….David”
He slowly opened his eyes when he heard my voice. He looked at me with a puffy red eyes “da-” a raspy voice called out. He threw his arm around my neck. As soon as I enveloped him in my arms, he started sobbing quietly.
I picked him up. He was soaking wet. Without saying a word, I unlocked the door. I moved us straight to the bathroom. I tried to sit him on my nearby tub, but he resist. He held of me tighter, muffling his cry. “shh…I’m not going anywhere. You’ll only take a warm bath real quick okay baby"
He nodded weakly. With this state, I know he can barely lift his hand. I help him pulling off his wet cloth. I putted away his backpack in the corner. I turned to him wearing only his underpants. He wrapped his hand around himself as he shiver from the cold. I started preparing warm water in the tub. When I was done, I motioned him to sit in the tub.
After we’re done, I rinsed him thoroughly with clean water “I’ll put fresh cloth on the bed” I said as I try to walk out. He grabbed on my hand. I turned to him and give him a small smile “I’ll make you chocolate milkshake, the way you like it” I promised. He searched something on my face, eventually he let me go.
I waited for him to dress up in the counter with a glass of warm milkshake. I knew I’m suppose to send him home soon, but seeing him so weak in this state, I’m afraid I need to break my promise. I turned towards the staircase when I heard him coming down.
My pullover was a little too big for him. Not that I’m a well built body, he’s a lot thinner than he used to. I noticed that his chubby round cheeks were sunken. My poor baby “umm-….your trouser don’t fit me, I guess” he said. He removed his hand from the waist; my pants formed a pool around his ankle
I chuckled a bit “that’s okay, you don’t need anyway. I heat up the room. come here, have your shakes” I moved the cup towards the empty stool. He didn’t move an inch. He lowered his gaze down on his bare toe “David…”
“don’t send me home” he muttered.
If I could see clearly, I probably would see drops of tears hitting the floor. I walked towards him. I carefully wrapped my arms around his body. “baby you have to understand-…”
“Lara told me”
At first I was a shock to hear that. She’s the one who desperately want David; I thought she’ll keep that I secret forever. Now if she break our deal, I’m scared what will happen next. I felt warm tears on my chest. What’s matter now is that my little man is sobbing in my arms and I have to take care of that.
With him in my arms, I moved towards the living room and sat on the couch. I let him straddle both my side. I rubbed his back trying to comfort him “baby…stop crying, it’s alright. Everything will be alright”
He looked up at me, tears still flowing down his pinky cheek “Lara said you only leave me because she’ll hurt me. Don’t you know I’m not afraid of her?”
