Chapter Ten- "You had an interview with Lilac's mother."

"And in other news..." A serious looking middle aged lady said in monotone towards the camera, not blinking an eye as her next sentences caused Hunter to yell out from the kitchen. "It's been one month since two teenagers disappeared from the small town of Pembie with no evidence to point to any direction. Here's Tom Green with more information."

"Turn it up!" I heard him turn off the stove top before quickly dashing and jumping next to me on the small couch. I quickly raised the volume to a high as we waited for Tom to talk in anticipation.

"Hello Tom." The news anchor said, still monotone with the slight hint of a dramatic note passing through her teeth, whilst my breath was caught in mine.

"Good afternoon Susan." The background changed from showing both reporters, to just Tom. He was standing by our old school, the famous willow tree at the entrance by his side. "One month ago two teens, Lilac Faye and Hunter Starr, allegedly ran away on the same night after both leaving goodbye notes. The reasons why were stated in those notes but haven't been seen by anyone accept the families." I felt Hunter tense up and i lay a soft hand on his, not letting my eyes leave the screen. "From sources that wish to stay privet, the two have never had any contact or communication prior to this event and is renowned unlikely for the two to be travelling together, which doesn't mean that they're not."

"Now, you had an interview with Lilac's mother previously today, is that correct?" Susan's face flashed on the screen again and I cringed at the maroon shirt she was wearing, only just noticing how it dulls out her eyes. I tried to deny myself the right to listen to my name on tv but the nerves that filled out my body at that sentence left my body paralyzed with wide eyes and all attention focused to the old school screen.

"Yes that right, let's have a look at it now." I still couldn't move. My breath was hitched too deep in my throat, my body only letting me gasp air when it was immediately needed, before getting it stuck again. It was torture, and my body was forcing it on itself. The scene changed again to show a lady with blonde hair that hinted grey at it's roots and a droopy face with vicious bags falling under nether her sad eyes. Her face and stance no longer seeming familiar to my eyes. I couldn't take it anymore.

"Turn it off." I commanded, somewhat finding my voice, but only the weak part that made my statement ring with irony. I sounded like a mouse telling off a cat.

"Li-" I stopped him from saying anything else by lifting my pointer and placing it gently on his lips. He looked down at it with confusion soaring through his wide eyes and I dropped my hand slowly. I turned to face the other way awkwardly before grabbing a dirty looking cushion and holding it steady in my hands. Taking a deep breath in, and imagining it clean, I pulled the cushion to my mouth and let out a scream. After running out of air, I took it off my mouth and let in another breath before repeating my previous actions. After doing it another time, it seemed Hunter awakened from a trance and started to soothingly rub my back, surrounding me in a strange comfort that I only seemed to find within his touch. Ugh. Stupid boys and their warmth.

"Let me help you finish making those pancakes." i eventually said after what seemed like hours upon hours. That was the first news we'd heard about ourselves, and the shock wasn't hitting lightly. Lightly was when Hunter's fingers subconsciously trace the lines on my hands. The shock I was currently experiencing was like the adrenalin that had forced itself into my blood stream after I was held at gun point by someone who is now somewhat a friend.

"Okay." We both stood up but before I could attempt to take a step towards the kitchen, Hunter grabbed my wrist and spun my into a hug. "You can talk to me at anytime, okay baby?" His warm breath hit my ear as he called me by what has seemed to be my new nickname that he saved for these kind of situations.

"I know." I breathed into his rising chest.

-------------------one week later--------------------------

"Five weeks baby." I cheered as the sound of Hunter's motorbike attacked me from below my ear and the warm wind harshly whipped my hair into my face. I heard Hunter chuckle and I just smiled into his leather jacket. He was so comforting it was annoying. All I wanted to do was cuddle with him and the only thing that stopped me was the voice in my head that screamed rejection every time I though of him, which was ashamedly a lot.

"I think this calls for a celebration." I let out an excited whistle as he pulled into a passing bottle-o. This seemed to be a running tradition. Every week we've survived on the run, we get wasted. Which, you know, isn't healthy but hey, we do have fake ID's that allow us to buy alcohol.

"I do believe that we've been missing out on some rum lately." Hunter smirked at me as he helped me off the bike. I clapped excitedly, I loved my rum.

"What are we going to do for your birthday? It's in a week today." I gave him a knowing look, I told him that we should show up at a random party and convince everyone it was throw for him. He didn't like the sound of it but never disagreed. I saw that as a maybe, and that was good enough for the time being.

"Donno." Was all I got and I rolled my eyes at him.

"That'll be $59.99." The bored cashier said, not even bothering to check our ID's. I loved those kinds of people. Hunter handed over the money when a news report came on. I almost chocked on my breath as I saw it was another one about us. Goddamn it.

"Hunter Starr, run away from Pembie, has been allegedly spotted in North bridge, a short hour away from his hometown." I tried hard to not start laughing and I glanced over at Hunter and realized that he was doing that same. We were far, far, away from North bridge, try a different state maybe.

"Have a nice day." The cashier said suspiciously, waking me up from my trance.

"You too, sir." I said before dragging Hunter out of the shop by his wrist. "You okay?" I asked sincerely, knowing that him being on the news affected him.

"Something like that." He mumbled before walking back towards his bike with me following timidly behind.
