The Discovery

(Sonic)

Sonic ran through the forest at immeasurable speeds; a blue streak across the land. His head high in the clouds as he enjoyed the all too familiar sensation. The only thing on his mind: a pretty pink hedgehog with his heart in her hands.

Amy Rose, a long known admirer of Sonic's, only just recently acquired Sonic's heart. Now he couldn't keep his thoughts from wandering to her.
As Sonic was considering possibilities for their next date, his nose zoned in on a rusty, salty scent.

Blood.

He skidded to a stop, and walked slowly back to where he first smelled it. There in the grass lay a fresh path of footprints interlaced with drops of scarlet.

As Sonic followed the path he noticed that the person seemed to have been stumbling along due to their injuries. As he followed, the trees started opening up into a clearing. Standing just under the shadow of the trees, he spotted a crumpled body at the far end of the grassy patch.

Scanning the clearing for a cause of this person's distress, he came up with no sign of danger. He sped across the clearing and knelt beside the body. There lay a girl about his age face down, blonde hair covering her features.

At first glance he assumed she was human, but as he got closer he realized that she was much too small and had golden furred ears. He gently rolled her onto her back. Her face was relaxed but pained as she clutched her left arm. Her clothes, a blood stained and tattered t-shirt and shorts, were loose fitting and singed. She was obviously a Mobian but had slightly human traits; such as her separated eyes and smaller than normal hands and feet.

Sonic took out his phone and called the most qualified medic he knew. Scanning through his contacts he found the name he was looking for. He held the phone to his ear. After three rings there was an answer.

"Tails here."

"Thank goodness you're home!"

"Sonic? What's wrong?" The fox asked, startled.

"Tails, I was on my morning run when I found a trail of bloody foot prints. I followed them and found an unconscious blonde hedgehog. Can you take a look at her?"

"Of course! What seems to be wrong?" Tails answered as he prepared his basement lab/infirmary for its next visitor.

"She's holding her left arm and most of the blood is on her left side." Sonic replied.

"Ok, get her here as soon as possible and I'll see what I can do."

"Thanks, Tails! See ya in a few!"

Sonic hung up and put the phone away. He slid his arms under the unknown girl and cradled her in his arms. She was unexpectedly light for her body shape and relaxed in his arms.

He sighed to himself. Who could harm such and innocent, young girl?

And with that, he was off.
