SOULMATESso renjun knows that he's got a soulmate out there.
despite all the controversy, he does actually dabble around in relationships, dating the odd girl or guy who peaks his interest. he figures that if fate has his soulmate in mind, he might as well have some fun before he's chained down by someone new.
but sometimes his adventures end in tears, with the likes of mark and jisung leaving him upon discovering their soulmates, and in the end, renjun accepts that someday, he'll be chained down by someone he's destined to be with.
supposedly, the whole soulmates and destiny thing doesn't appeal to renjun-it's supposed to be romantic, with a small tattoo of your soulmates name and the day you met appearing on either your wrist or your ankle when you make contact with them.
but some people have more than one soulmate, more than one option-renjun is one of them-stars across your collarbones tend to indicate how many possible soulmates you have; most people only have one, but renjun has two pretty little stars adorning his prominent, bony collarbones.
but renjun doesn't see them as pretty or cute-he sees them as a curse, ones he's ultimately stuck with, one that bind him to his future that he can't change. renjun enjoys freedom. but you tend to lose some when you meet your soulmate.
so he lives in the moment, seizing every opportunity to travel, experience, live his life like he probably wouldn't be able to once he meets his soulmate.
contrary to your first thought that settling down with them is your choice, it's typically looked down on to ignore the destiny you're born with.
but renjun sinks into his routine after a while, after the unfortunate circumstances that most of his friends have left, lives and paths set out for them by those stupid tattoos.
he finds a somewhat enjoyable job at his local coffee shop, meeting some of the employees and getting along with them better than he'd initially expected he would, despite their contrasting ideas on the soulmate bond.
but one fateful day, renjun is preparing one of his customer's coffees, and he does have a mental battle with himself on the prospects of asking the boy on a date-he's unfairly attractive.
he's got dusty gray hair, small highlights of blue here and there, typical healthily tinted tanned skin that renjun can see down until the dips of his collarbones, thanks to the boys choice of clothing-renjun spots two small stars across his chest, and sighs.
like me.
he thinks to himself as he mindlessly finishes the coffee order and writes the name 'jaemin' in his pretty handwriting, curling the j in his stylistic preference.
but as he hands it to the boy, receiving a thank you in response, their fingertips brush and renjun feels an electric current zip up his spine, sending a tingling sensation to his fingertips.
it's all pleasant until the stupid pain kicks in, searingly hot on his wrist and he cries out in surprise. unfortunately (?) for him, the boy he'd passed the coffee to had dropped his order, reacting in an almost similar way to renjun.
when he manages to turn his wrist over, he swallows and holds back a wave of tears.
