SUPERHEROjaemin doesn't think that he's lucky. he thinks he's extremely lucky.
him and jeno happen to be best friends, and jaemin was extremely surprised to walk into him and jeno's shared dorm room on a school trip, only to find him shirtless with spider webs clinging to his sweaty skin.
he won't lie, it was a shock. sometimes it still is.
especially when he sees the newspapers and tabloids with front pages covered with images of him, news channels reporting on a new rescue he's accomplished or even just hears gossip around the school about sightings and interactions with him.
jeno is spider-man. and jaemin is envious.
one of their best friends, renjun, who'd also been on the famed school trip, is the only other person other than jeno's aunt who knows that he's the famous superhero spider-man, and is often the one who manages to lie for the pair, keeping them in a mostly inconspicuous position.
jaemin wishes that he could help jeno, even just be part of the adventure. because every time jeno sneaks off in the middle of school, laughing to himself as he remembers one of jaemin's jokes as the younger boy watches him swing away from their classroom window, jaemin feels a surge of jealousy through him.
jeno is the one with the exciting life, the amazing friends, the awesome family. jaemin is just a friend. he's not even the sidekick.
just lee jeno's best friend.
--
his feelings towards jeno are always the downfall of their relationship, whether they make up a day later or a month.
it's complicated.
but they're going strong, with jaemin concealing his feelings and jealousies towards jeno's life as they enter finals week, with renjun helping them through the studying process and keeping jeno safe from their schools stupid teachers.
but jaemin's losing it, because his feelings are more confusing than ever. rather than hating jeno, as he had before, it's the complete opposite. although many do compare he two emotions as being so similar that either can be used interchangeably.
he loves jeno.
so when their physics class ends, the final bell of the school day sounding, and renjun waving to them and mumbling meaningless anecdotes about the last time he forgot his journal, jaemin keeps his eyes trained on jeno.
the boy packs up his bag hastily, before walking to the window like he always does, but before he can slink out of window with his usual grace, jaemin puts a hand on his shoulder, and jeno turns his head in surprise.
"jeno, can i talk to you for a sec? before you go off and... you know..."
he says, trailing off as he looks at jeno, who's constantly glancing sideways to see outside the window. jaemin feels hurt, and he looks down as he loses his will to voice his thoughts.
jeno seems to notice, setting down his bag and sitting on a desk, before turning jaemin gently and looking up at the younger. jaemin pouts a little, trying his best to avoid jeno's piercing gaze, too afraid that he won't be able to control his feelings.
so he doesn't look at jeno. if it takes this much to get him to pay attention to him, then he won't bother at all. he flees, bag slung over his shoulder as he runs from his problems.
