This novel tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a hideous sapient creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment.
Shelley started writing the story when she was 18. First edition was published anonymously in London, when she was 20 years old. Her name first appeared on the second edition. Even then, many readers and critics refused to believe that she really wrote the story. According to them, she was too young and inexperienced.
This novel was written for a little contest among friends. Mary Shelley, her lover (and future husband) Percy B. Shelley and Lord Byron had competition, a bet, to see who would write the best horror story.
I searched different internet sites to find out what the other two authors wrote, but could not find anything. Does anybody know?
