Constance Knox

As I walk along the street to my favorite cafe, I notice something different about the air around me. I inhale sharply, stop in my tracks, and look around. I notice the usual things, the smell of coffee from the people around me, the smell of grass, flowers, and other nature-like things. I sigh and shake my head quickly to clear my head. Then, as I start walking, I see her. The most beautiful girl I have ever seen. I stop, look at her, and blink twice, thinking she's an illusion.

"Hello," I say quietly to her.

"H-hello," she says quietly to me, seeming shy.

"I'm Constance," I say, with a bit more confidence now.

"I'm Lyndsey," she says to me.

"So, Lyndsey, where are you going?" I ask her, even though she's sitting on the sidewalk.

"Nowhere currently, if you must've noticed," Lyndsey says, seeming serious. Thinking this is funny, I start giggling. Lyndsey gives me a weird look which only makes me laugh harder. She smiles lightly. I wipe the tears away that appear whenever I laugh way too hard.

"S-sorry--" I laugh a little, blushing a little. After a while, I sit by her and watch everyone walk by us.

"Do you do this a lot?" I ask calmly, then I start giggling again.

"Sit around and people-watch? Yes, I do this a lot, if that's what you're asking," Lyndsey says, making a sweeping gesture with her hand.

"I notice you have an accent, Constance. Where are you from?" she asks me, and I blush a bit.

"I'm from Britan, Lyndsey. There, we talk funny and drink tea all the time. It's the best, really," I say, starting to rant, but I stop myself before I get too far into it.

"I love tea, so we have something in common then, yes?" Lyndsey asks me. In response, I nod my head as a sign of approval. Then Lyndsey makes this delightful laughing sound. It sounds like a tinkling chime blowing in the wind. Something so small, quiet, and beautiful, that no one would ever notice unless they tried to. When she laughed, I got caught off guard, my breath caught, and then, my eyes went wide. She must have noticed because she stopped laughing.

"What's wrong, Constance?" Lyndsey asks me, clearly questioning the look on my face.

"N-nothing, Lynds..." I stammer, then say, "Your laugh... It's so beautiful. I've never heard anything like it. It sounds just like wind chimes when they get blown in the wind. That tinkling sound that makes heads turn, they give you a second glance, then, it's gone..."

Lyndsey blushes and she says, "Thanks, Constance. I haven't ever been told that, and I appreciate it. You're the only one who's ever said anything like that to me before. Even my ex never said that, and she loved me more than anything. That is until she left me for some skank..." Lyndsey mutters the last part to herself, but I hear it anyways and take that as a personal note about her.

"How do you even like coffee, Lyndsey?" I ask, sincerely wondering about this fact about her. Then I want to say something else, but I keep my mouth shut.

"It depends. I like frappes and cappuccinos, but I don't know if that counts..." Lyndsey mumbles and blushes again.

"You're so cute when you blush," I mutter and blush a slight pink.

"Sh-shut up!" Lyndsey says, blushing even more red than before. I laugh, my breath catching again once she joins in. I want to get to know her better, but I'm scared of what will happen if I try to. I know my doubts sound stupid, but I'm really scared of what will happen if I fuck this relationship up, too.
