I've been stuck here for a while now. Due to my injuries I can't leave our base. I just sit here all day, cooking up food for when Kelly returns. Or hobbling around on my crutches, aka sticks. I manage to shoot the occasional rat or two, but nothing much happens. Kelly goes off on raiding missions everyday, leaving me stuck here. She's brought back some clothes, and lots of food. But I wish I could go out.
But I sit here, roasting some rat meat for when Kelly gets back, when I hear a noise coming from back in the subway. We've never explored this area much, so I have no clue what it could be. Gripping a torch firmly in one hand, a dagger in the other, I creep forwards. My footsteps fading, echoing in this long tunnel. I turn a slight bend, and gasp.
Lying there is a boy, who looks to be my age. He has short, black hair, and is a little taller than me. His area where he sleeps is messy, but I guess that's to be expected in teenage boys. But most surprising is the fact that he's here. Alive. There are more survivors.
I shake him awake. He opens his eyes, and his blue glare at my brown ones. He scans me taking me in.
"How did you get here? Why are you here?" He asked. My response startles him. "Me and my friend Kelly live right around the corner. And before you ask, we survived due to these." I show him my daggers, and knives. After we chat more, he packs up his stuff and we go to our little area. He unpacks, and makes himself comfortable. And after a while, Kelly comes back, toting a pack of canned food from a fallen house.
"Hey Deb-" her greeting is cut off as she sees me sitting with the other survivor. "Who are you?" She asked, completely dumbfounded. The boy walks up to her. "My name is Ryder. And yours is?"
"My name is Kelly." She says. She continues to question Ryder, about how he survived, where he was, and if he was going to stay with us. When he says that he would stay with us, I can tell that she really doesn't want him to. But on the outside, she appears to be quite fine with him staying.
It takes us a couple of days to get settled with our new routine. I stay here, Ryder and Kelly go out (That sounding wrong, but you know what I mean. Go out to get supplies), Come back, have lunch, then we stay here, make stuff, have dinner, and sleep. Pretty freaking boring. It's the fifth day, and I'm praying that my ankle will heal soon. I'm dying to go outside, and run around. But, no, I'm stuck in here, and stuck all day cooking. But, I'm actually really good at cooking. Or, as good as you can be while trying to survive.
Ryders talents are proving their worth. While he isn't that good at hunting or fighting, he has lots of other survival skills that we were lacking. With his brains, and our brawn, we were unstoppable. Then again, there was nothing to stop us. Except, for, like, storms. Like the one that's happening right now. It came out of nowhere. We huddle together, trying not to lose each other in the heavy winds. Rain come down through the staircase opening, and pelts us relentlessly. I can hear thunder in the distance, with just ten seconds between that and the lightning.
"What do we do?" I shout. Ryder looks up to be, looking confused. The wind must have snatched my words away, and made them undefinable. I shout louder. "WHAT DO WE DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He nods, and jerks a thumb to the bend in the tunnel. Of course! I grab me stuff, as do Kelly and Ryder, and we make our way into the darkness. Once there, we settle down to sleep. Who knows how long this storm might last?
Like it? If you do, please comment, like, vote, share, or follow, it would be greatly appreciated. I will try to update every Thursday/Friday, but, as always, school comes first. Also, I was thinking. When the book is done, I am going to enter it in the wattys (watties?). I hope that you like this book. PEACE OUT!
