A penetrating sound woke Emma up and while she was very tempted to just ignore it and stay in her warm and comfortable bed she had to get up if she didn't want to be late to her morning class. A long sigh escaped her lips and after a thorough stretch Emma pulled one leg after the other out of her bed. She was a firm believer in minimum time and effort when getting ready, so she just skipped into a pair of black jeans and threw on a fitted green wool sweater. Emma still had ten minutes for breakfast only to find out that they were out of toast. "Why didn't we buy bread yesterday?", she whined. "Well, good morning to you ,too. Aren't you a sight to behold in the morning.", her father grinned, loving that he could mock her so easily. "Breakfast is the single most important meal in a day. That's what you taught me.", Emma pointed her index finger accusingly at her old father. "Uh, whatever I guess I'll have to buy something on the way." Not wasting anymore time, she grabbed her backpack and was out of the door within a minute.
At the latest moment possible, Emma ran into her classroom slightly out of breath and without having much of a choice, she sat down in the first row where the last available seats were. This class she didn't share with Clara so she was able to focus a lot more on the lecture seeing that she sat by herself. Her curiosity peaked up when her Philosophy professor mentioned corporate social responsibility- the connecting part between philosophy and economics and incredibly interesting might one add. Emma knew she had to hand in at least one written paper, so she might as well try to take a topic that she had genuine interest in. The rest of the class she scribbled down whatever her professor said which would have been a real challenge to decipher for anyone besides her. After the class Emma waited for Prof. Anderson to pack up his things and then she approached him with a polite smile on her lips. "Sir, I really enjoyed your lecture today and to me this topic is particularly interesting and important. So, I was wondering whether I'm allowed to write my paper on the effects and application strategies of it?" The man who was probably as old as her father laughed in a nice fatherly way: "I'm glad to see you so motivated Ms. Barnes and of course you're free to choose the topic as long as it has something to do with this class. You didn't really have to ask, but now you have my official permission." Emma smiled shyly and she was content that it went so well: "Good day to you! I'll get going."
On her way out of the building Emma thought that she ought to ask her uncle for his opinion on the topic. Since he was a very intelligent man who happened to be a professor of Philosophy as well. It was remarkable how different he and her mother were, even though they shared the same parents and therefore the same genes as well.
