Before we begin, a warning.

Before I start this story, I will put a big warning chapter. This story is going to be dark. Unlike the way Stardew Valley likes to portray it, life is not sunshine and rainbows 90% of the time. And I choose to portray life in a more realistic way within my works.

That being said, this story will contain triggering subjects. I mean, one of the main characters is canonically a depressed alcoholic, so of course this story is going to be dark. It will contain alcoholism, drug abuse, mentions of self harm, suicidal ideation and abuse, and other triggering topics. Before each chapter, I will put a warning for what that specific chapter contains, and I will make sure I keep the mentions of triggering topics to a minimum. However, the main topic of this tale is therapy and alcoholism/drug abuse, so if those topics make you incredibly uncomfortable, it's best if you don't read this. There will be no descriptive paragraphs of any drug abuse.

I have always had a strong attachment to Shane, and whilst I appreciate the cute and fluffy fanfictions you usually find, I simply don't relate to them. I enjoy the nitty gritty angsty tales that make you really care about a character. I have a lot of personal attachment to a lot of things in this story, something that I have yet to find in most other stories.
I want to write Shane at his worst and lowest point, because surprisingly enough, he isn't perfect. He never was. It's best not to kid yourself about that. He's a messy character that makes messy choices, and that's okay. He was never written to be perfect, and I sure as hell won't write him that way.

Thank you so much for reading this, and without further adieu, I present you with potentially the angstiest Stardew Valley fanfiction to ever exist.
