Chapter 2

~

Shaken and rattled, I gather myself and get to my feet on trembling legs, not sure where to go or what to do. I feel like I'm being ripped in two. The boy I just saw, he looked exactly like... But that can't be. He's dead. He's been dead. But if he had been alive, he would be starting his freshman year at Uni, so maybe-

No! It's not him. He just happens to look like him.

I nod to myself, willing my mind to forget about the last ten minutes as my feet start walking to Aiden's dorm room of their own accord. But as I walk, the green eyes of a boy I once knew haunts my memory, forcing me to recall the exact color and shade of the eyes of the boy I just ran into. The resemblance between them is unreal and I squeeze my eyes shut, willing the images of the green eyes out of my head.

Before I know it, I'm standing before Aiden's door. I plaster a painfully fake smile on my face as I rap three times on the wooden door.

The door is swung open to reveal a smiling Aiden who immediately throws his arms around me in a tight hug then pulls me into his dorm. "Welcome to the room of Grimshaw and Devine."

My face screws up in confusion. I don't know any Devines. Seeing my expression, Aiden laughs. "I had a few classes with the bloke last year and we decided to share a dorm, but he hasn't arrived yet. I think he said he's coming tomorrow."

I nod and sit on the naked mattress next to Zayn who has yet to take his eyes off the football match on the telly screen. Aiden reclines on his own bed, his eyes going straight to the telly. They're planning on doing this until ten? I glance at the clock above the telly, grimacing as it only read half past four.

Fifteen minutes go by and I become agitated with the lack of activity. "Is this what we're going to be doing all night?"

Zayn doesn't move a muscle, but Aiden's eyes flicker to the clock above the telly. "Pizza should be here soon."

I groan loudly and face plant into the mattress next to Zayn. "Boring," I mumble into the mattress.

"Well, do you have something better in mind?" Zayn queries from my right.

"Anything's better than this. It's our first night back at Uni, away from families, we can do whatever the hell we want. We can get shitfaced, we can go to the bar. Hell, bowling would be better than this."

Exactly one hour later, Zayn makes another strike, sending all ten pins flying. He whoops in victory as Aiden and I give him the finger with angry grunts, "Tosser," I say as he sits beside me and takes a swig of my beer.

"You're just jealous," Zayn winks cheekily, bringing my beer bottle back to his lips and downing the rest of it.

"Oi!" I snatch the empty bottle from his hand. "I was going to drink that, you know?"

Zayn laughs at my playful glare. "Just go get another one."

I scoff, standing up. "Get another one for you to drink? During my turn?" I gesture to the bowling ally that Aiden sulks away from toward us. Once he's close enough, I clap his shoulder. "Double gutter?"

"Double gutter," he repeats, taking my vacated seat. He picks up my bottle beer, but once he realizes it's empty, he sets it back down with a sour look on his face. "We should have just stayed at the down and watched football all night," he grumbles.
