Thirty Two

Jordan speed walked to his truck he had to get to Nate

No one else was going to tell his cousin that his beloved wife was gone but Jordan

Jordan jumped in his truck and sped off to the hospital

Within minutes he was parking in the parking garage

He didn't bother with the elevator taking the steps two at a time

When he made it to Nate's room he found the man in tears and Aiden sitting in a chair beside the bed

"I'm sorry Nate "Jordan said as he entered the room

"What the fuck happened ?"Nate demanded

"I don't know much other than the house was set on fire again and Mary didn't survive .They're going to do an autopsy and we should know more then "

Jordan turned to Aiden "What the fuck are you doing here ?"

Aiden shrugged "I thought Nate needed to know his wife was dead "

"How did you get here before I did ?"

"I left when you were still talking to Murray "

Jordan's face hardened "Go home you're not needed or wanted here "

Aiden said nothing as he got up and left

"What was that all about ?"Nate asked

"Police business nothing for you to worry about.You have enough on your plate .I'll keep the kids with me .They'll be safe with Mattie and I .I promise "

"Is that the intern you were telling me about ?"

Jordan nodded

"Is there anyone you need me to call for you ?"Jordan asked

Nate shook his head no

"I'll be back in a couple of days just focus on getting out of here and I'll handle the rest "Jordan reassured him

Jordan made his way back to his truck and pulled his phone out to call Mattie

"I'm sorry I ran off on you I just had to get a few things done "

"I'm sorry about Mary "

"So am I and I will find out what son of a bitch did this to her .Have they taken her to the morgue yet ?"

"Yes about ten minutes after you left "

"There's not much more we can do until the team sorts through the scene .Are you oksy with the kids ?"

"They're hungry "

"I'll be there in five "

"Okay drive safe "

"Mattie ?"

"Yea?"

"I love you I'll see you soon "

Jordan slid his phone back into his pocket and climbed into his truck

As he drove he thought about the second fire at the Melville house .The arsonist hadn't set any of the other buildings on fire more than once so the fact that he did in Jordan's childhood home spoke volumes

Jordan pulled into the parking lot of the hotel he'd booked for everyone

Making his way to the room he heard Jazzy's giggles and Emerson's squeals .Mattie must be playing with them

Swiping his keycard Jordan let himself into the room and the site that greeted him made his heart want to burst

Emerson on Mattie's lap while she blew bubbles into the air from one of those bottle and wand things
