She tried to still her ragged breathing as she pressed back into the shadows of the alley, the faint smell of sweat was masked by the scent of her own blood as it welled up from under the ragged edges of her fingernails.

She could still hear the running footsteps of the Coppers as they hunted her through the streets. She looked down at the loaf of bread in her hands, it wasn't the first time she had stolen something or the police wouldn't be chasing her so hard.

She didn't want to steal but she and Ann hadn't had a decent meal in a week and Ann had just lost her job.

Standing slowly she peeked out and checked the street before bolting towards the last place she had seen Ann, but Ann wasn't there.

Cecilia strolled down the street trying to appear innocent and inconspicuous. The door of the restaurant in front of her swung open and a man walked out followed by Ann. Cecilia quietly snuck after them shocked to hear them talking about her.

"I will have to leave a message for Silya" Ann was saying to the gentleman walking next to her "I couldn't possibly bring her with me she is better off here."

"Of course miss Darrow I believe we can leave a message at the docks and someone will get it to her"

Silya looked up admiring the vast ship that Annie was boarding. She slipped up the gangplank silently ducking behind a stack of crates as a sailor passed close enough to touch.

She weaved and ducked around crates and barrels until she found the door to the hold. She scurried quietly down the stairs and glanced around at all the cages filling the hold.

Footsteps sounded above her, she could hear voices as the door was opened allowing light to filter down the stairs.

Silya curled up in a tight ball in the darkest corner of the largest cage praying that they wouldn't find her.

She must have fallen asleep because when she finally sat up the boat was moving. She stretched her aching back. Apparently what ever had lived in here had left the bones of it's supper in the back of the cage.

She tore a chunk off of the loaf of bread that she had tucked under her coat, it was stale and hard but it was food.

Silya stood and made her way carefully out of the cage working her way to the very back of the hold and settling down on a pile of old animal hides.

And she waited.....bored....very bored.
