The cold darkness surrounding her was broken by the fragile light cast from a single lantern that swayed gently as it was carried down the stairs.
"Silya!" Jimmy's panicked voice rang in the stillness of the hold waking her abruptly from her slumber. She groaned and struggled to stand only to collapse back to the floor.
Jimmy quickly hung the lantern on the wall and sat down next to her putting her head in his lap, he stroked her hair gently moving it away from the large gash on her temple. He looked down at her with fearful eyes.
"It's not that bad" he struggled to say as if the words choked him "You'll be fine, I promise"
She smiled up at him weakly before allowing the darkness to enfold her in a gentle embrace.
The light pierced her eyelids savagely wrenching her from the sweet haven of sleep into the conscious world. She grabbed her head, groaning as the pain returned pounding inside her skull.
Jimmy leaped from the chair beside her bed as soon as her hand left his grasp.
"Silya! How are you feeling?"
"Oww..."
He giggled and helped her sit up piling pillows behind her. She settled into the pillows with a sigh.
"Will you read to me?"
He nodded excitedly and snatched the closest book from the side table.
"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit...." his gentle voice carried her into a deep restful sleep.
