chapter fourteen.
evelyn.
The color drained from Alexander's face. For the longest time, he did not respond, his cool eyes darkening as he stared at me coldly.
Just as I opened my mouth to explain, the man roughly and suddenly threw me over his shoulder and stormed out of the Royal Hall. I gasped, fisting the back of his shirt to keep me from swaying too much. I was going to protest and demand that he put me down, but I should sense his anger and decided against it. At this point, I realized my mistake and knew that the only way to remedy it was to wait until Alexander felt like he was in control again.
Alexander did not stop until we were back in the bedroom, but his carrying me attracted the attention of not only Christopher, but Anthony too. The both of them followed closely behind, obviously curious about what I had gotten myself into. Christopher was grimacing, and I could almost hear him saying to himself that he should have never let me into the Royal Hall.
I met gazes with Anthony and shot him a nervous smile. I expected a snarky comment out of him, but he must have also noticed how livid Alexander was, so kept it to himself. Though I didn't miss the amused smirk on his face.
Once the bedroom door shut behind us all, Alexander put me on my feet and held my face between his hands. "You are leaving me?" he asked, his voice flat.
My hands wrapped around his wrists as I attempted to shake my head, but his hold on me was too tight to do so. "Alexander, you didn't let me finish," I squeaked.
"She requested to leave?" Christopher tested, sounding shocked.
"Yes. And go home. To the people that left her for dead. To those that betrayed her," Alexander snapped. "To leave me."
I gawked up at him. "I don't want to leave you! Are you crazy? You didn't let me finish. You still aren't letting me finish."
Anthony appeared at my side, putting a hand on his brother's arm. "I think it's best that you take a step back and let Sweet Pea explain. You are jumping to conclusions."
Alexander still hadn't moved his eyes off of me. I could see that he was trying to keep his wolf in check. "Explain."
I took a deep breath. "I do need your permission to leave the boundaries. But I plan on coming back. Back home, I took care of my sick mother. When I was sacrificed, I left her there and I... I forgot about her with everything going on here. I have to go back and get her, to make sure she's okay."
"How sick is she?" Alexander asked.
"She can't walk on her own. She's in almost like a state of psychosis," I explained. "Catatonia, specifically. I know it's asking a lot, but I have to try. She... Something might have happened to her already."
Alexander sighed in relief, pulling me to his chest securely. "We will do whatever we can as long as you never start a statement with leaving the borders again. I was about to lose my mind, pup," he gushed, kissing the top of my head. "I can send a group of men out immediately to retrieve her. Christopher, you will be in charge. I just need the address of your home and some other information about your mother's condition so that-"
"I should go too," I weakly claimed, afraid of his reaction.
"No. Too risky."
"It's my old pack, not a warzone. If anyone sees me, they won't hurt me," I claimed. "It'll be okay. Especially if Christopher is there. Right?"
Christopher gave a short nod, but looked wary about agreeing with me. Alexander shook his head. "No."
"She is my mother."
