“I’m sorry, you’re not aloud to come back. You’re just going to have to wait here,” the scrawny nurse said as she placed her hand on Niall’s chest, keeping him from following me back into one of the Doctors rooms.

“Why I am I not aloud?” He asked the nurse irritatedly.

I tried to keep my eyes on him, even though he was getting out of hearing range, but the other nurse kept dragging me down the hall, and everyone was stepping in my way.

I was pulled around a corner and Niall disappeared from sight. The towel the nurse had pressed to my rest wasn’t very thick and my blood was already seeping through it. I was surprised I wasn’t already feeling light headed. I remembered feeling lightheaded when I had slit my wrist, but then it was kind of soothing. Now, I was having a panic attack because Niall wasn’t with me. I didn’t know why he couldn’t come, none of the nurses gave me an explanation, I couldn’t see him, I didn’t know if he would be able to convince them to let him come back.

My breathing had sped up, along with my heart rate, making me start to feel lightheaded. I was ushered into a room by the nurse and was told to sit tight while she went to get the Doctor to see what damage I had done. I wasn’t bleeding as quickly as I had when I had used the razor blade, but I was still loosing blood and it wasn’t good.

Just being inside a hospital made me feel paranoid. I felt like my Mom was gonna come busting through the door any second, telling me she’s sending me to a more advanced mental home. I pressed the towel tighter to my wrist. I wanted Niall to be in here. I was glad he was with me, actually, but I didn’t think they’d make him stay outside.

On the ride over, he called Nicole, explaining why we had left, because she didn’t understand what he had yelled back in the apartment. I told him to tell her not to tell Marie or anyone, just keep it between them, and she promised she would.

As if an idea had walked into the room, the door opened and something popped in my head.

“Why won’t you let my boyfriend come back?” I blurted out, my mouth no longer feeling in my control.

“The blonde boy?” The woman asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yes. My parents are back in America and he was the only one with me. Why can’t he come back?” I asked more forcefully now.

“We can’t let him, because he’s not family, or legal guardian,” she stated.

“He’s the only one I’ve got right now! Let him come back here!” I demanded.

She looked a bit taken aback at my sudden shouting.

“You need to call your guardian, I’m sure you’re not here with only your boyfriend. I’ll go get a phone for you,” she said turning back to the door.

“The only thing you will be leaving this room to get is my boyfriend. If you return to this room without him, I will leave without any care,” I said sternly.

I knew I had her then. She couldn’t possibly think of letting a poor 15 year old girl leave a hospital with a blood pouring wrist. She slipped out of the room, and in all my sudden demands, I hadn’t realized how lightheaded I had become. I relaxed onto the plastic covered bed, trying to calm myself. I held the towel tight around my wrist, praying that nurse would get the point.

I waited. Calls were made over the intercom and people rushed passed my door with severely injured patients, family members weeping as the followed them. I watched through the window of my door as more patients passed. How long had the nurse been gone? I looked up at the clock. 5 minutes. Felt longer, though. My head throbbed and I closed my eyes, finding relief there since I didn’t have the florescent lights blinding me anymore.
