Another Side

Daniel stood in front of Kabir. He silently watched Kabir cry. One part of him wanted to comfort Kabir and make him feel better but the other part was broken and angry at the same time.
Kabir realized that Daniel was standing in front of him. He said, "You know what I'm going to do Dan. I'll go to Mumbai and clear up everything!"
Kabir got up in a hurry to pack his stuff but Daniel blocked him. He shouted, "Don't be an idiot Kabir."
Kabir spat loudly, "I'm trying not to be an idiot now."
Daniel stopped him and said, "Don't make decisions in a hurry. If you really want to go to Mumbai, then go this weekend. Don't go when you've got work."
Kabir looked at Daniel with anger. He said in a stern voice, "I don't need you to make decisions for me. I can take care of myself."
This time, when Kabir tried to go to the bedroom to pack his stuff, Daniel didn't stop him. He was disheartened and furious. Kabir started throwing a few clothes on the bed while Daniel entered the bedroom to give him his piece of mind.
"So what do you want me for Kabir?"
Kabir continued doing his packing and said, "I don't have time for this. Please just leave me alone."
Daniel raised his voice, "Have you ever considered how I have felt during these past few months? It has always either been about you or about Palomi."
Kabir said in an irritated tone, "You know what? I can't deal with this from you as well. Palomi has always been bugging me and you're doing the same thing now."
"Now I'm bugging you? Really? I can't have a conversation with my boyfriend?"
Kabir snapped, "I'm not your boyfriend Dan."
Daniel's eyes were watery. He shouted as loud as he could, "Then what am I to you? Am I just a pawn for you? Kabir I want you describe the kind of  relationship we share. Tell me!"
Kabir sighed and said, "I'm tired from inside Dan. I'm exhausted. Please try to understand."
Dan maintained the same tone, "Why am I always supposed to understand? Why? Why always me?"
Kabir shouted without thinking, "Because my life is harder than yours! I have to deal with so many things in life. Maybe just like Palomi I need therapy. My life is not easy like yours."
Daniel got offended. He said, "Kabir, just shut up! My life is not a bed full of roses. My life is difficult too. You know your life could be easier if you choose not to complicate simple things. I don't have that option and you very well know that! How dare you say that my life is easy?"
Kabir sat on the bed with a slouched posture. He shouted, "Please leave me alone Dan. Please. Let me think."
Daniel snapped, "Think about what? I am sure that after things get pleasant with Palomi, you're gonna continue cheating on her.  You want both. Do you realize how selfish you are?"
Kabir raised his voice a little, "Are you calling me selfish?"
"Yes, I am. Because you really are very selfish. I thought I'll be there to support you so that you could be happier in your life. Dealing with Palomi has changed you. I don't know this Kabir who is sitting in front of me. Its like I've never met that bitch but I know who she is. But you are worse than her I feel."
Kabir snapped, "Oh please! She is better than you. I can't believe that I'm listening to this bullshit of yours!"
"I'm expressing myself for the first time in this relationship! You express yourself every time but I don't. I am sick of you. Do you know how sad you make me feel? You make me feel worthless. You just seek your advantage and treat the person accordingly. You don't care for me."
Kabir shouted, "I'm human Dan. I feel like I have to take care of everybody but nobody does the same for me. I'm human. My feelings count too."
Daniel let out his tears. He said, "Kabir, even I'm human. I exist here too. I don't deserve to be felt shitty about myself. I don't deserve to be felt like I'm being used."
Both of them were silent for a while. Daniel asked, "Remember yesterday you asked me whether I loved you and I said 'yes', I wasn't faking it. I did love you and I still love you. But you try your best to not love you. Why? I loved you even though I knew that you were with Palomi."
Kabir let out a sigh and he cleared his throat. Daniel expected him to say something but he didn't.
So he asked, "Kabir, look at me."
Kabir turned his head and looked at him. Daniel continued, "Do you really love me?"
Kabir looked at him and he started crying. He was confused from inside too. He got up from the bed and walked near Daniel. He hugged him tight and said, "Of course I love you. I love you so much. I'm sorry for what I said. You're right, I'm selfish. I won't be selfish from now on. I do so many stupid things and I never realize how much I end up hurting you. I'm sorry."
Daniel hugged him back and said, "Kabir please just treat me with respect. Please."
Kabir stroked Daniel's hair and said, "I will. I think this weekend I'll apologize Palomi and we can continue what we have here."
