Matthew felt alone. He sat in cabin 1, Zeus's cabin, with Jason. His brother was reading a book that his girlfriend Piper had gotten him from a bookstore. His mind wandered aimlessly.

He could see why Jacob liked Chaya. She was a pretty girl, but compared to his Rose, she was a grain of sand on the beach.

"Hey Jason?" Matthew asked, facing his brother.

"Yep." Jason said, not looking up from his book.

"Have you ever thought about your past, wishing you could die along with one of your relatives?"

Jason looked up from his book with concern. He stared at Matthew for a while, then put his book down. He sighed and put a hand on his shoulder.

"Sometimes, I think about that, too. But then I look around at all I would've missed out on. Like my girlfriend Piper, and all my friends, like Leo and Percy. I wouldn't have met them, and they would probably be dead without me."

"I guess so, but I feel like if I died with them, it wouldn't matter because Jacob's already dead, and the others are moving on like Jacob isn't gone. They're acting like he never existed!" Matthew cried, wrapping his arms around his brother.

Jason held him close, unsure what to say or do. Matthew just clung to him, whimpering "I miss him so much." over and over again.

A knock on the door startled the brothers. Matthew quickly let go and hid his face. Chaya's face peeked through the crack. Her eyes were closed.

"Is it alright if I come in?" She asked with her faint Spanish accent.

"Yes." Jason said. Chaya opened her eyes and walked in. She noticed Matthew's covered face and knew he'd been crying.

"Is everything okay ?"

"Y-yeah! Everything is p-perfect..." Chaya sat next to the poor boy. She put a hand on his shoulder, but before she could speak, Piper opened the door. Her eyes became golf balls at the sight of a crying Matthew and Chaya's hand on his shoulder. She knew why he was crying.

"Time for dinner." She stated and Jason stood up. They left, hand in hand. Matthew sighed and stood up. He helped Chaya stand and showed her to the pavilion. She sat with him at Zeus's table and they talked about their memories with Jacob.

Matthew didn't know that much about Chaya until now. Sure, Jacob mentioned her a few times, but he never talked about these memories. They were his secret. She was his secret.

They went to the campfire and talked until everyone left to their cabins for the night. Chaya started to nod off, and eventually fell asleep on Matthew's shoulder.

Embarrassed, he blushed and picked her up. Rose wouldn't like this scene even a little. He reminded himself of her beautiful face and her curly brown hair he liked to twirl in his fingers.

He carried Chaya to the Big House where she was staying with Jade. Chiron answered the door and took Chaya from Matthew and bade him goodnight.

Before he returned to his cabin, he had the audacity to go to the beach. The harpies would be snooping around, but he just wanted a look at the water and stars.

He kicked off his shoes and felt the sand under his feet. He went all the way until the cold, salty water splashed around his ankles. The squishy sand melted between his toes and he looked at the sky. His favorite constellation, Orion, was plastered in the sky.

A cold hand touched his shoulder and for a second he thought it was a harpy who had found him and was going to eat him. Then he heard a whisper in his ear and knew who it was.
