Evan looked up at the girl who was carrying him through the tunnel. She seemed very distracted by something, but he didn't know what. The boy was walking beside her, not saying a word."Almost there?" He asked. The girl looked down at him. She smiled.
"I'm not sure, Evan. Just be patient." She replied.
"Walk." He said shortly. She set him down and they walked hand in hand. Thy hit a dead end and the boy snapped.
"We walked all this way for nothing?!" He yelled.
"Now, Matthew. We didn't do this for nothing. We got Evan, remember?"
"Chaya, we are looking for the spell, not a distraction. He will cause nothing but trouble. We have to give him to someone who can actually afford to take care of him."
"I can take care of him! I will do everything within my power to save him and there is NOTHING you can do about that."
"Whatever you say." The boy mumbled. "But be warned, you'll regret your decision later."
"You're the one being a distraction. We need to look for the spell, not argue about Evan." The girl said. She let go of Evan's hand and ordered him to stay put. He sat down on the floor and drew in the dirt.
They searched until Evan ran out of space to draw. He had drawn from the dead end to the spikes. He had stopped and held his mother's hand one more time and drew himself back. His main drawings consisted of the constellations and the moon.
Matthew looked at Evan's drawings and wondered how he could draw that well. Evan knew all the constellations and many more he didn't know. Who was this kid really?
**
"I got it! Evan, you're a genius!" Chaya cried. She began searching the ground for the constellation Perseus that Evan drew. He had a very clever way of communicating. "Here! Dig at Perseus."
"What?" Matthew asked.
"It's simple. I took the first letter of every constellation Evan drew and it read out Perseus. See?"
"Pegasus, Equuleus, Reticulum, Scorpius, Equuleus again, Ursa Major, and Sagittarius." Matthew recited.
"Good!" Evan congratulated. He smiled his toothy smile. Chaya wondered why he didn't talk like a normal four year old. Maybe she was wrong about his age.
"How old are you, Evan?" Chaya asked. He held up six fingers. She almost passed out. "Six?! You don't look or act six."
"He can't be six. He doesn't know his age." Matthew said. Evan pouted and showed his six fingers to Matthew. "Yes, I see."
"Right!" He screeched, shuffling his feet and destroying his drawings in his wake. "Right, right, right!"
He was about to destroy Perseus when Chaya picked him up. He wiggled and screamed, yelling he was right. He kicked Chaya's stomach and she dropped him. He continued destroying the constellations and screaming. Chaya ran after him, but couldn't catch him.
He ruined his drawings. Chaya sat down on the floor, exhausted. Evan continued to run around Chaya in circles screaming "right!"
"YES YOU ARE RIGHT EVAN NOW SHUT UP!" Chaya gave in. Evan stopped in his tracks, his eyes wide. He sat down not far from Chaya and began to draw again, clearly pleased with himself.
"Perseus! Favorite stars." Evan announced, having redrawn the constellation. He stepped away and pointed. "Spell in Perseus."
Matthew walked over and began scooping away dirt from the constellation. He came to a glass bottle and picked it up. He wiped off the dirt and sat next to Chaya. He handed it to her and she inspected it.
