1 week later

"Any cases?" Choi asks as he walks up to me. I took a double shift manning the ER today. The kids are with Antonio

"No, it's a slow day"

"Never say it's a slow day in the ER" Maggie smirks, I chuckle

"It's a slow day – sloooow"

Maggie flicks my forehead and I laugh as Choi shakes his head in amusement.

The phone rings and I answer

"ER"

'Incoming – 18 college children crashed into a semi on their way to graduation; we're dropping off at Med'

My eyes widen, "Bring them"

I hang up and mutter "Incoming"

After paging everyone on call, we get ready for the ambos to get here

I take the first ambulance – Gabby gets out

She reads the patient's vitals to me, but before we could get to the trauma bay the girl flat lines

I try to resus her but to no avail, and there's still a lot of other patients flooding the ER

"Time of death; 18:33"

"Thanks Gabby" I tell her and she sighs, she nods sadly and leaves the hospital.

I take the next patient, a boy, he's awake

"Have you seen my girlfriend? She dyed her hair blue for graduation. She got flown out the back window"

"I haven't seen her, please calm down, we need to treat you"

"I need to see my girlfriend!"

"I promise as soon as I see her, I'll come tell you but now I need you to stay calm so we can treat you"

He finally got still and I started examining him, his vitals are stable; BP is normal; heartbeat is normal.

"Alright Joshua, you have burn wounds; and a laceration on your valve, I will repair it"

"Okay" he nods and I turn to my resident

"Monitor him; he's not strong enough for the surgery; treat his burn wounds and page me if you need me"

"Copy"

"Roberts, need you here" Rhodes says and I jog over to him

"She ruptured both her lungs; her jugular has been slashed"

"Call the OR, tell them we're on our way" I tell the scrub nurse and Rhodes and I take her up to surgery

**

"Doctor Roberts, you're needed in the ER"

"I'm a little busy here" I say indicating that my hands are in a boy's chest, and the harder Rhodes and I try to fix him, the more he codes.

"They say it's important"

"Dammit!"

"Go, just come back!" Rhodes say and I nod. A nurse wraps my hands since I can't scrub out and I run down to the ER

"What's wrong?"

"Are you scrubbed in – she's coding, heartbeat's slowing down – sinus brady"

"Shock her, and start CPR"

"Charge to 200" My resident says and shocks her

"Nothing, charge again" I mutter

"Charge...clear"
