I've kept you all waiting. This is Fox, and it's a pleasure to meet you.

I suppose this part of the book is my own soliloquy.

Did I surprise you all by this sudden release? I hope I did.

To commemorate the birthday of my very first character, Yza Blade, I decided it would be fitting to celebrate it with the birth of a new protagonist, for my V Series entry to the CCEU.

Thus, [Yuuto Birth] was born.

Generations has been a project that I've been working on in the background for a very long time. It drew heavy inspiration from various series. I'd like to give credit to the series that led me up to this point.

The premise of a school for card games on an island comes from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, while the caste system is based off Baka and Test and Assassination Classroom. The way how the school works is based off Classroom of the Elite and Shokugeki no Soma, and the wars that take place is based off Danball Senki WARS.

Without these series, the idea for the school wouldn't have been born. I took the best elements from each of these wonderful stories and combined them together to create GEN Academy.

I wanted the story to be a twist on the high school battle genre that used to be feverishly popular in light novels before the isekai genre came to be. My main vision for Generations was a school drama with a psychological thriller twist, where the characters use wit and ingenuity to defeat their opponents.

Hopefully, I've achieved this.

If you ever feel like rereading this story, please pay close attention to Yuuto's thoughts, actions and speech. Think about it a little. It will make your second time reading the story much different.

Volume 1 of Generations has been both a pain and a blessing to write. I'm glad to finally be able to share the thoughts and ideas I've kept hidden for the past year. However, it was painful working on this in secret while also fulfilling deadlines for my other series.

Recently, I've been wondering if I'm stagnating. My writing has evolved drastically this past year, but somehow I feel like my most recent works feel very confused and read similarly... perhaps ten years from now, I'll look back on volume 1 and think "Wow, I really did suck as a writer.".

Now, I'd like to list some acknowledgements.

KRX350 — Assistant-kun— no, Assistant-sama, thank you for being my confide during this creation process.

I unfairly pushed all of my stressful emotions onto you, while at the same time hitting you with idea after idea in waves.

When I was lost on what to change, you stepped up and became my editor. I'm sorry for making you read so many sample parts. Your advice on what to do has been very helpful.

The OSTs you've given me are absolutely stunning. You've outdone yourself once again. Please take a long break as a reward. My treat.

Please keep working hard, even though you're supporting a forgetful idiot like me.

kaiishida and Little_Cute_Cookie — how can I not acknowledge you two? Together, we make up CCEU, Memeskull, and so much more.

You two are my partners in crime, my best friends for life, and my two most favourite people in the entire world.

Thank you both for agreeing to my selfish requests, and pardoning my bad work ethic. This volume is dedicated to you two especially.

I'm sorry that I've kept you waiting for my V Series entry. But it's here now.

Shida, thank you for contributing Kaido's OST and not questioning why I was asking for so many things related to Generations.

Kicchan, thank you for guidance on the cover and not questioning why I was making it instead of asking for your help.

I'm sorry for keeping you in the dark, both of you. I wanted to surprise you guys the most with this publishing. Sorry for the unexpected questions too.

Also, yes, I did make my own cover. It's nowhere near as good as your gorgeous ones, Kicchan, but I hope I didn't disappoint you.

My illustrator,— wait, I am the illustrator...

I would thank myself, but that's too arrogant, even for me. Instead, I'm going to thank all the reference images I used so that my art would look professional. I must diligently improve that skill, too...

Finally, there is you, the reader. Because you're reading my work, that means you too play a central role in this book. Thank you very much for reading volume 1 all the way to the very end.

This section is dedicated to the original owners of characters that I've been allowed to use. Thank you all who submitted them.

One final announcement, before I leave.

Before everyone gets excited over when I'm going to release volume 2, I have to break some unfortunate news.

Volume 1 of Generations was me just testing the waters. I actually don't plan on releasing volume 2 for a long time. A very long time. Probably after I finish my main series long time.

I created volume 1 to gauge the audience's response to this volume. That's why...

I humbly request that you give me feedback on this volume through a review!

I would really appreciate it. If the response is good enough, I'll drop my main series in favour for writing Generations.

But generally, I'm looking for thoughts and opinions on the main protagonist Yuuto, the content of the volume and what people liked most about it, such as favourite scenes and characters, and what people disliked about it, bits that were boring, or parts that could be better written.

If you do take time out of your day to write a review, thank you so much.

This postscript is getting lengthy, so let's conclude this volume here.

Once again, thank you for reading volume 1 of Generations. I hope to see you all again very soon.

That's all, Fox out!
