"Oh God," Ajax whispered, all the fight suddenly knocked out of him. He didn't want to argue about who was right and who was wrong now. He was on his knees in front of me in a second. But when his eyes met mine he didn't look afraid. He also appeared to be excited.

I was clutching the expensive rug with both hands, my teeth gritted to prevent any further screams from coming out of my mouth, and he looked so happy. If I had any strength or power over my body I would've screamed at him for all I was worth.

"Do you think it's happening," Ryan asked from the other side of the table. He didn't seem too concerned either.

"It could be," Ajax whispered.

"Is there any way we can help her through this?" Adeline wondered. Thankfully, she did sound a little worried.

"I don't think so. Either her body is strong enough to override the medication her mother was giving her or it's not."

But, with Ajax's soft voice so close to me and those eyes on me I quickly forgot about what I was so enraged with. Now, I was just scared of what my body was doing to me and why they all seemed so calm when I was clearly having a medical emergency. I needed help and they weren't providing it.

But, as my thought process changed to one that was not aggressive or vengeful, the pain lessened. My teeth were no longer gritted together against a scream. My lips parted and the only sound that came out was a confused whimper. Then, my body trembled with weakness when the rest of my pain left my body.

"Not today. Not yet," Ajax murmured, then reached towards me. His palm cupped my arm and he slowly helped me to my feet, appearing dejected.

"We need to find that damn woman and see what kind of awful shit she's been feeding her daughter. Who could do this to their child?" Adeline snapped from the other side of the room. Each time I had seen her she had this royal elegance to her. She was always graceful and spoke with a certain formalness. But now she just looked pissed. And I didn't understand why it was all targeted at my mother.

I just stared at her, panting and clinging to Ajax. Her husband moved quickly. One arm was wrapped around her waist before she could say another word. "Addy, this isn't the time or place for this conversation," King Orion hushed, then glanced at his son, "Take her up to her room and let her lay down. I'll send word that she'll take breakfast there."

"Thanks dad," Ajax said softly.

"What's happening to me?" I whispered when Adeline and Ryan left. My eyes filled with tears and my hands gripped Ajax's fine suit, "First this morning and now this, what's wrong with me?"

"Relax, sweetheart," he cooed in my ear. He sounded so calm. It seemed impossible because I was absolutely falling apart. "Everything that is happening to you is natural and healthy. I know it seems hard to believe but it's completely true. Now, come on, I'm going to take you upstairs so you can lay down and catch your breath."

I nodded my head, but when I moved to take a step my legs gave out. I whimpered and clung tighter to Ajax.

"Alright, that's okay," he said to himself. In one smooth motion he had squatted down and lifted me up into his arms. After one little adjustment, pulling me closer to his chest as my legs dangled over his other arm, he shot me a smooth grin. "How's that?"

"I could've-"

"I know, but this is faster."

We didn't argue anymore. He held me tightly against him and carried me through the house. I suggested that he put me down before we conquered the flight of stairs but he denied that swiftly. I knew better than to push it and I was still exhausted, like my body had contracted every single muscle repeatedly.

And when he laid me down on my own bed I felt the smooth silk against my shoulder. Through a hole in the relatively new shirt. A hole that had not been here before. Like the shirt had torn to make room for the way my body was changing beneath the fabric. I sucked in a shaky breath, trying to deny where my mind was taking me.

"Tell me what just happened down there," I demanded.

"Your body tried to shift," he answered, like it was so obvious.

"Shift? What is my body a tectonic plate?"

Ajax sighed and leaned his back against a dresser. His arms were folded over his chest like he was ready for a war, but those green eyes were sad, almost disappointed.

"The heat, what you felt this morning, and your body trying to shift are paired together."

"But they're both so primitive, like I'm more animal than human," I denied with the shake of my head.

"Did your mom ever tell you any legends? Like maybe Greek gods or, I don't know, werewolves?" he didn't seem fazed.

"Of course, every parent does."

"Did you and your mom ever have any weird instances?"

"What are you implying, Ajax? Are you saying I'm a Greek god? Or a werewolf?"

Ajax said nothing, meeting my gaze with an evenness that he shouldn't have. Not when he was suggesting something so absurd.

"Jesus, you are crazy. Get me another shirt and stop staring at me like that," I ordered. I said the words, but couldn't deny the way my mind was spinning out of control.

He said nothing, but did as I asked. When he found a shirt and turned to toss it to me, he froze, his mouth falling open in shock. His eyes were glued to my chest that was barely covered by one of my cheap bras. Though I hadn't thought twice about it, relatively used to being in nothing but bras and panties, I felt very self-conscious now.

"Don't stare at me like that. We met in a strip club, it's not like this is something you haven't seen before." I tossed my discarded shirt at him, but he still didn't bring his eyes up to my face. "What are you, a virgin?" I taunted.

"Yes," he admitted.

"Wait, are you serious?" it seemed impossible. He was incredibly handsome and so intelligent. Those green eyes and auburn hair made him notable from across the room and those sweet smiles could disarm anyone. I was certain that he would be able to charm the pants off of anyone. And if he couldn't his money would've certainly helped with that.

"Yes, I've been waiting," he continued.

"Waiting for what, exactly?"

"You."

"What kind of virgin goes to strip clubs?" I demanded, but my face was still hot with blush.

"It was my first time. I didn't want to go. And when I saw you up there..." his eyes clouded with anger, but he shook his head, "Keiko, I can't have you stripping anymore. It drives me crazy to have all those men looking at you."

"Ajax," I groaned.

"Just think about it. And think about the other thing I said, too." He tossed the new shirt at me and left my room again.
