Love With a Twist

Allergies,
the constant annoyance of my futile teenage chronicles. They are indeed a marker of the seasons change. They tell us when the hot roots beneath the earth, rise to cool the warm night's.

Everyone seems to have them, the violent burst of a sneeze that rebukes every pumpkin spice trend that has made our culture so clearly bland and monotonous.

I feel it in my bones,

Watery eyes, fever, the itch for something new.

Tattoos, photobooths, and shivers like butterfly kisses.

We were born anxious.

"AHHHCHEEEW" I sniffled.

"Quarantine this bitch!" Faya suggested as students turned away in disgust from my sneezing fit.

I raised my middle finger, the last four weeks had made me into a bitter bad ass.

The hazing has settled into a slow pace, it came in small but frequent doses. My nickname was still trending, and no one had forgotten that I was the girl who showed it all.

The only thing that had changed, was I was closer to Thai, and Jodie had become a cheerleader. Kevin was deep into his football season, and was too busy to do his obligated duty as my protector correctly.

Most of our conversation, consisted of "Hurry up. I have to go to!..." or "Can you walk by yourself today?"

So much for Mr. Nice Guy.

Fall shifted into a lovely and cozy cocoon, adoring our usual vibrant green campus with a blanket of crisp autumn leaves, and the smell of cider and cherry wood. I was happy to say that I had joined a book club, who was too busy divulging into the supernatural world to pay me any mind.

However, Faya had made sure to keep the spirit alive. One day at lunch I caught her selling t-shirts that said, "Grace has a Wolf Monkey!"

What was worse, was the fact that she always had a scapegoat. Whenever questioned by the principle about her nefarious deeds, she would deny, deny, deny, and then pick a name out of a hat and blame them. I could never understand why no one spoke up, or allowed Faya to do whatever.

"So don't forget to turn in your homework" Ms. Newla smiled.

This was another bonus, Ms. Newla and I shared a close bond or so I'd like to believe. She was the sweetest Philosophy teacher I'd ever had. I enjoyed learning about culture and people from her.

She was also drop dead gorgeous and every horny boner walking beanstalk (male) in our class acknowledged it.

Her soft, bruised apricot colored hair flowed across her shoulders, like beach waves to accentuate her dainty oval face, and olive skin.

Ms. Newla's basil eyes always held this soft sonder expression as if the world was made of glass, fluttering around a wisk of dark lashes.

News spread like wildfire. Like me, she was an exhibit for everyone to judge based on her beauty and youth.

Kevin, who never seemed to have any time to walk me to classes strangely always lingered when Ms. Newla was around.

I felt bad for Ms. Newla, she was a sexualized chew toy, and I was Chewbacca, but no one cared that we were people.

My nostrils burned, as I scrunched my eyes ready to sneeze again, "Ahhh Ah Chuuu..."

A quick and precise finger rested under my nose as if trying to block my sneeze.

"If you sneeze one more time, I will make sure you shit yourself." Faya growled.

She threw another box of tissue at me. For once, I couldn't blame her because even I was annoyed with my allergies.
