HE SHOULD HAVE listened to her ⎯ Andrea. He should've listened to the blonde with more common sense than all of Hawkins, Indiana combined.
Billy should have listened to Andrea when she asked him to cancel the date with Karen so he could stay at his place with her. He would've loved to watch movies with Andrea but he just couldn't pass up the opportunity to get laid.
The creature snarled at Billy as he scrambled away from the stairs on his butt with his hands scraping against the rough concrete floor with each movement. The thing began hissing and making other noises Billy couldn't even describe if he wanted to, but the boy knew that whatever he was hearing was not good.
Billy quickly got to his feet and sprinted toward the exit as fast as he could. He dropped down off of a small step and began running once again, not daring to look back. He skidded to a stop at his car and yanked open the driver's side door, climbing inside quickly and starting up the car successfully. Without a second thought, he put the car in gear and shoved on the gas, causing the car to rev and speed out of the parking lot, leaving behind whatever was after him.
* * * *
His eyes caught a glimpse of a phone booth conveniently placed on the side of the road. "Oh, thank God," he whispered and cut the wheel, sending the car onto the side of the room quickly so he could call the police for help and then he'd ask for them to bring Andrea to be his sedative. He climbed out of the car and ran to the phone booth, yanking open the sliding door.
With shaking hands, Billy dialled 9-1-1 on the keypad and brought the phone to his ear, waiting for the rings that would end up saving his life - hopefully.
"9-1-1, what's your emergency?" The woman asked over the phone in a calm, soothing voice that only sent Billy's mind spiralling into the things he had seen.
Billy blinked as his mind replayed the events that happened to him just moments before. He felt everything he had gone through once again. Every bump, every scratch and scrape, every emotion and drop of sweat that trickled down off of his forehead. He remembered the thing clamping on over his mouth. Billy could feel the slime on his face once again and it felt like it was happening to him for the second time.
"Is someone there? Hello?" The woman on the other end asked which sounded distorted and evil to Billy.
The lights over his head began flickering and he looked up with wide eyes. He wanted to scream out for help and call out Andrea's name in hopes she would hear him. She told him the things she did last year to save her kids and he hoped she could do the same for him.
Billy was surrounded by darkness now. The lights had gone out and now he was standing in the dark, confined space of the phone booth with a phone to his ear to ask for help but he couldn't find his voice to ask for the help he needed.
Billy hung up and phone and stepped out of the phone booth, small pants escaping his lips. He looked around slowly and a sick feeling bubbled up in his chest as his eyes spotted vines and other strange-looking things littered around the road and his car. Wherever he was, wherever he had gone, definitely wasn't Hawkins anymore and as much as he hated that town, it was where his job was and it was where Andrea was and he wished to be back there so badly.
As he stared at a large group of people slowly marching toward him, he swallowed down a lump of nerves in his throat and ran his tongue over his lips. "What do you want?" He asked and took a few more steps toward the group that was slowly moving in on him. "Hey! I said, what do you want?" He repeated, this time his voice was louder. Billy sighed and pressed his lips together, taking a few more steps forward. "I said, what do you want?" He yelled over the clap of thunder in the sky above him.
