~~~Feyre cocked her head. "Queen of Terrasen..." She pronounced Aelin's title slowly, tasting it around. "I have never heard of Terrasen."
Aelin brought her legs up, resting her chin on her knees. "Does that show then, that this is another world?"
Feyre slowly caressed her belly, deep in thought. She looked out the window again, and then yawned.
"Sorry, darling." Feyre said. "We were all up late. We had an unexpected guest." She smiled openly.
A grin tugged at the corners of Aelin's lips, she cupped her cheek. "I miss my home." A tear made its way down her face.
Feyre clucked her tongue. "Now, Aelin, don't be sad, I'm sure you will get back."
"You don't understand. We are at War."
"You are?" Feyre asked with surprise, her arched brows raised.
"Yes. I had a plan to save my family... I had to get captured for that."
Aelin meditated on the idea of telling the whole truth to Feyre, she had the feeling that she could trust the female.
"I'm sorry— I'm not at my best. I promise I'm not always a depressed one."
Feyre blinks, then she starts to laugh good-heartedly. Aelin keeps talking, "I'm usually a sassy girl. That's what everyone would say too."
They were both now laughing. Aelin clutched her stomach and lay back down, careful of her scars, but now her tears were happy ones.
Feyre stood up. "In another life we might've been best friends." She smiled. "Before opening up and talking seriously, I want you to meet my family."
Aelin looked down, her ragged clothes had been changed into a white nightgown.
"Can I change into my clothes?" Aelin said.
Feyre walked to the closet and opened one door. "You can wear something new."
She took out light brown fitting pants and a white cotton blouse. She tossed them to Aelin.
Aelin rose from the covers and padded to the bathing rooms, clothes in hand. After changing, she followed Feyre out to the hall.They walked down a series of closed doors and finally down stairs carved in beautiful smooth wood. The smell of spices and herbs made its way to Aelin's nostrils as she descended carefully behind Feyre.
They got to the bottom, the house was some kind of airy vacation cabin.Pairs of eyes, fire, flowers, a mountain, and endless stars were painted on the top of the main archway, making the entrances amazingly colorful and livid.
Aelin instantly recognized the violet eyes as the ones of Feyre's partner, below those were the pink-violet ones, and many more eyes she didn't recognize—all this seemed to be painted by hand.
They crossed the threshold to the kitchen, where a group of Fae were standing. Feyre waved at them and turned to gesture at Aelin."Aelin, this is my family. Rhysand," the beautiful tan male raised his hand in greeting, "those are my two sisters, Elain and Nesta," an extremely pretty female with an airy dress and big skirts smiled shyly, the one next to her gave Aelin a firm nod, she seemed serious and regal. "Then there is Mor, Azriel, and Cassian."
Mor was a golden haired female, her smile was so big it took half her face. Next to her was a tall, muscled tan male with chocolate brown eyes and black hair in a man-bun, who winked. Then another tan male, more lean than broad, and a little bit taller, with bright hazel eyes and black hair that curled past the nape of his neck. Both males were extremely handsome, the female was beautiful.
Damn, Aelin thought with silliness, everyone is so good-looking. I would've already bedded all the males here.
Feyre then pointed at the young girl up in Cassian's shoulders. "That's my youngest child, Elanna, my little star, for now." She pointed at her belly. The girl looked to be about ten years old. Her pink-violet eyes full of curiosity as they looked at Aelin.
"And my other children, m—my boys." Feyre's eyes turned glassy as tears accumulated. Rhysand came up to her and hugged her to his chest, his expression grave.
"They were taken at a very young age." Rhysand explained for her. "They were three males, two twins were just months into the world, and the other one had been 1 year old."
Aelin frowned sadly. "I'm so sorry."
"It's alright. We will find them. But it's now been almost two centuries of hopeless search."
Aelin opened her mouth to ask more, but shadows curled and whisked in the room. The blackness extended, went straight to Azriel, whose eyes narrowed.The silky shadows seemed to whisper at his ear, Azriel looked at Rhysand. "My shadows got something." He said. "The vertex, in which Aelin fell from, left strings of energy after closing. Which means there should be a way of triggering those strings and opening the portal again."
Aelin raised a brow. "How can they be triggered?"
Rhysand spoke this time. "We need—" He started.
A petite Fae strolled calmly into the room, her hair was short and so black it seemed to swallow the light around it, her eyes were bright and an extremely clear shade of blue, almost white. They reminded Aelin of Starfire.
She was small but Aelin got the feeling that the female was something more than that body could say, and hold. Something ancient. Dangerous.
She looked at Aelin. "Aelin Ashryver Whitethorn Galathynius. Heir of Mala Fire-Bringer." She cocked her head, predatory. "Great granddaughter of Maeve, Mora and Mab... interesting."
Mor sighed. "Amren will always be Amren, interrupting dramatically."
Rhysand, however was not in time for jokes as he tightened his grip on Feyre. "Amren, did you just say Maeve?" He said with lethal calm.
Amren nodded.
Aelin looked between them. "Why? She's my... aunt." She said the title with disgust.
Feyre stilled. "She... she was the one who stole our very first newborns." Feyre said.
Azriel kept explaining for them. "Two boys, a set of twins. Rhys and Feyre's first pregnancy. Maeve somehow took them, and didn't leave trace, we only know it was her because my shadows caught her otherworldly dark scent, and her name has been whispered since forever." He scratched his neck. "We only know she is from another planet, or dimension—we're not sure, we do not know anything else. We don't— didn't— know where she disappeared to. Until now, with you here, we might know."
Aelin's breath came out ragged. "You said twins."
"Yes." Feyre whispered.
"Did you get to name them?" Aelin asked, and Feyre nodded weakly.
"What were their names?" Aelin asked, fear running along her spine.
Amren carefully assessed Aelin, it gave her goosebumps. The petite Fae spoke, and Aelin felt the words like a blow. "Fenrys and Connall."
