After very tiredly trying to answer questions about the fire by police officers, it was Gabriel that decided it was too late to try and make it all the way to our luxury hotel so we decided to unfortunately settle for a one-star motel that I just knew my manager would never approve of.
I woke up to Gabe's music blasting throughout the small motel room the next morning and was grateful he pulled me out of my nightmare. It was of the man in the ring. The one I still haven't told anyone about. Not the police last night, not my best friend when she called me and not Gabriel when we drove to the motel.
I sat up on the bed and stretched my sore muscles; I definitely needed an ice bath. Just as I dreadfully stood up from the bed, Gabe's music stopped as he emerged from the bathroom with a towel around his waist and water dripping from his hair.
"So I found a hair ball in the bath tub and I know it's not yours because you have brown hair and this is black so I'm thinking we should sue this hotel now. Oh and how about you explain to me why you were mumbling nonsense about 'burning in hell' in your sleep last night. It was really creepy you know? I was about to throw you off of the bed. Even call a priest. I want answers young lady!" exclaimed Gabe, pointing an accusing finger at me.
"Okay first of all, you are only 5 minutes older than me! Second of all, I will explain everything after you get dressed and we go get breakfast."
Gabriel rolled his eyes but nodded and quickly put on a pair of sweats while I changed into some workout clothes before making our way downstairs and immediately checking right out of the unsanitary motel. After loading our things into the car, we found a nice breakfast diner and ordered a table for two. Just as the waitress handed us our menus and left us to look it over, Gabriel burst into discussion, prompting me to give explanations and so I told him everything that happened the night of the championship. From the pounding on the door to the man in the center of the octagon holding up the threatening sign.
"So how much smoke exactly did your lungs inhale?" Gabriel asked me in a sarcastically serious tone as he reached over the table to poke at one of my ribs. I glared at him and smacked his hand away.
"I'm not crazy! I know what I saw!"
"Those paramedics clearly did not do their job correctly. Were you dropped as a child? I mean I know I was there but I don't remember if you were," he continued joking but my glare was not going away. It was as soon as I crossed my arms and narrowed my eyes even more that he stopped laughing and his mouth dropped open in shock. He was my twin after all; he knew when I was drop dead serious.
"What the hell!" he shouted, reaching over the table once more but this time to punch me in the arm.
"Ouch! What are you doing?" I yelled at him before we both slouched down in our booth since people were now starting to stare.
"Are you kidding me? You should've told me sooner! They could've followed us to that motel! You're not safe right now!" he scolded me.
"You're overreacting. Sure the dude was really creepy and he was holding a death threat sign but that doesn't mean he's actually going to kill me," I weakly explained. Not even I believed myself. Gabriel was about to make another remark but two guys came over to our table and asked for an autograph. I quickly scribbled my name and handed their papers back to them as they walked away smiling from ear to ear while I decided to continue my conversation with Gabe.
"Look, if I was really in danger something would've happened by now," I chuckled while rolling my eyes but just as the words came out of my mouth, a loud crash was heard from outside. Everyone in the diner quickly turned their heads to look out of the windows and what we all saw was jaw dropping.
My car was totaled. Completely and utterly crashed. It looked like a tank had run over it even though it was just sitting there nicely parked a few moments ago.
"Gabi?"
"Yes Gabe?"
"How about we get out of here as fast as we can?" Gabriel offered nervously.
"Agreed."
