I stared at the wall for a good five minutes before I finally snapped out of it. I had to remind myself that none of this was real. And that the previous events were just a part of my imagination. This time, it was harder to convince myself. But what was I thinking? Of course it wasn't real. I shook my head, laughing at myself for even thinking that it could possibly be real.I stood up, heading downstairs. The house was still empty. Not like I minded. I liked it better that way. My favorite part of our house was the library. Because of my father's job, we had a large supply of books. The library was often my safe place. For some reason, the creatures there seemed to be more peaceful.
As I walked towards the library, I heard some voices coming from my father's study. For some reason, I wasn't allowed to go in there. Dad always said that there was nothing for me there. Yet of course, curiosity got the best of me. I pressed my ear to the door, trying to hear the conversation.
"It's almost complete. Their number is getting lower and lower as our project grows"
I didn't know who that voice belonged to. Yet the next voice was so very familiar.
"Good. I want all of you to prepare to finish it. The quicker this gets done, the quicker we can get rid of those beasts."
My dad...
Beasts? No one told me anything about freaking beasts. I tried to keep listening to their conversation. Yet I couldn't hear them anymore. I decided that i'd ask my dad about this later on. I quickly hid behind a few boxes as i heard footsteps. Soon, the door opened and two men walked out. One of them was my dad.
-"Schedule another meeting at the HQ for tomorrow. I want to see it with my own eyes"
-"Yes sir. I'll notify them of your arrival."
-"Make sure that they don't repeat the same mistake. I do not want a repetition of that accident ever again."
And with that, the unknown man left. I was so confused. I didn't know what they were talking about. I stayed hidden until my dad left. I wanted to know what they were talking about. I could hear the voice of sense screaming in my brain.
"That's none of your business! Leave it alone!"
Yet once again, curiosity got the best of me. I slowly left my hiding spot and started walking towards my dad's office. I was kind of scared. I didn't know what to expect. Taking a deep breath, I twisted the doorknob. I opened the door to a very normal study. A desk, a computer, a few bookshelves. Nothing strange. A few maps on the walls, a set of pictures. Everything looked normal. Too normal.
I continued looking around the room. I found nothing weird. The computer was full of work files. Normal work files.
I looked at the shelves. Normal books. The desk had some work papers on it. Still nothing strange. I couldn't understand why my dad would want to keep me away from this room. There was nothing special. Just some random files and books. Lots and lots of books.
I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard a bloodcurdling scream. At first, I thought it was another hallucination. But then, i heard it again. And again. It seemed like it was coming from the wall. From a certain map.
Now, any person in their right mind would have stayed away from the source of such a sound. Thankfully, I was not in my right mind in any way shape or form. So there was nothing stopping me from going near that map and taking it off the wall.
At first, nothing happened. I waited and waited. I stared at the map for five minutes straight. And then, I heard the scream again. This time, it was followed by a blinding light. It felt like I was knocked out for a while. When I opened my eyes, I wished that I had just left that bloody map alone. Because what I saw was so far from normal...
