Ice Cream

Cody's POV
I stormed into the hospital and ran to the receptionist giving Vanity's name.
"Are you her husband?" She asks
"I'm her boyfriend! Listen she's pregnant and she came in here because she felt sick. Can you please just tell me where she is?!"
"She's in room 310"
Running to the elevator I push the button to the 3rd floor.
Please be okay. Please be okay. Why did I leave?! I should have been here for her.
Once the elevator opened I looked through the rooms until I came upon 310. Barging into the room I see Vanity laying on the bed. Then I turn to see someone I really wish wasn't here right.now
"What the hell are you doing here?! Why's he here?! You got something to do with this Yelich! I swear if you touch my family I'll kill you!"
"Cody omg stop! Stop yelling!" I hear Vanity yell
"Look man I'm the one that brought her. She wasn't feeling so great and she told me to bring her because I was there. I would never hurt her."
Ignoring him I walk to Vanity's bed and hug her.
"Is the baby okay? What happened? I came as quick as I can Vanity. I've never been so scared in my life"
"I'm okay, I don't know what happened I was talking with Christian and then I felt a sharp pain in my back and then on my side and I knew something was wrong. I asked Christian to bring me right away. They haven't told me anything Cody! I'm scared. What if I lost our baby?! Why haven't they told me anything?! Why are they keeping me waiting like this?! This is torture Cody!" she yells out crying into my arms. I held her close kissing her head.
"It's gonna be okay, our baby's going to be fine."
"How do you know Cody?"
"Can I tell you something?" I ask
She nods and I continued but not before turning to the intruder.
"You mind leaving man?" I ask
"Oh no yeah um yeah I'll go"
As he leaves I turn back to Vanity and lay with her holding her belly that has gotten a bit bigger.
"When you got shot, I felt like I couldn't breath. It felt like every breath I took didn't do anything to my body. I was going out of my mind, I kept telling myself that you were going to okay and that you were going to fight because you never give up. I knew you wouldn't leave me because I'd never leave you. When the doctor let us know that you were okay... I took a breath of air and it felt great. I didn't feel like I was drowning anymore. Our baby is going to be okay because he or she has their mommy's strength. Whatever this was, our baby's going to fight it and be okay."
"Thank you Cody, I'm so glad that I have you. I love you so much"
"I love you so much more. And I'm going to love this baby just as much."

30 minutes have gone by and no one has come to tell us what's happening with our baby. What is wrong with these people?!
"Mmm Cody? Has the doctor arrived?"
Vanity had fallen asleep 20 minutes ago which was a good thing. I didn't want to have her worrying all this time.
"No, what kind of a hospital is this? This was an emergency they need to inform us right away."
"It was the closest one, I'm sorry"
"Oh no babe it's not you're fault it's just I mean c'mon they need to have better care for their patients"
Just as I was about to walk out to find a nurse the door started to open.
"Hi! I'm Dr. Reagan, I'm the head OBGYN here at Faith Hospital. You must be Vanity Seager right?"
"Yes! Yes that's me, is my baby okay?!"
"Well after taking some tests we saw that you're baby is perfectly fine and healthy. Would you like to take a look?"
Vanity nods and looks to me.
"I told you"
She laughs and shoves me.
"Okay can I have you take off the buttons from the side of dressings and I'll take an ultrasound."
As Vanity takes off the buttons from the side the doctor grabs the gel and the wand and begins the ultrasound. I look up to the monitor and see our baby.
"So there it is, the baby is perfectly fine. Here's the heartbeat"
Never have I ever heard the most beautiful sound in my life. That was my baby's heartbeat. I looked to Vanity to see her in tears. I then too felt a tear or two come out.
"Now we won't be able to tell the gender for another few months so you'd have to wait on that. But I'd like to inform you on your situation. You came in today for pain on you're side and back right?"
"Yeah I felt like a stabbing pain in those two areas. I thought it was the baby so I came in right away."
"Well the good news was that it wasn't the baby but the bad news is that your health was the cause. Since this is you're first pregnancy your body isn't used to all this. The cause for your back pain was all the weight from the baby but it's all normal it happens. You might continue to feel this pain over the first 2 terms but after that your body will get used to it. And as for your side it was just a side affect to the pain in your back. Often times back pain leads to other pain in other parts of your body. So everything is all good and fine."
"Omg thank you so much doctor! I was so worried it was something I did and I thought I lost our baby."
"No you're all good. For precautions though I'd say to rest for a while, don't put to much stress on your body. Keep yourself relaxed, no lifting heavy things. I'd say take a few days off of work if you have one"
"Yup she'll be doing all that." I say giving Vanity the look because I know she'll try her best to keep working.
"Well then I'll just go and sign your release papers and once you're done you can go sign the papers and you two can leave. I'm really glad everything was okay."
"Thank you so much Dr. Reagan" I say
Once she leaves I turn to Vanity and smile.
"Want ice cream?"
"Oh yess!" She says while picking up her clothes and changing.
