Splitting Seconds

Time's currency is counted in seconds.

Slow it down.

Smash years into 12 fragments. Let the fragments slide across the floor.

Break the months into pieces.

Tear a week into 7 strips.

Cut a day into 24 squares.

Reduce 24 to 1.

Fracture an hour into 60 transparent sharp shards.

Breathe. Take a second to breathe. Feel the oxygen as it rushes into your lungs and is pulsed through your body.

Snap seconds in half and split the halves into quarters.

Let the tears flow from your eyes. Inhale, as they role down your cheeks and gather under your jaw. Exhale as they drain your body dry. Feel the cold as they evaporate from the surface of your skin.

Just breathe and slow it down. Focus on right here, right now, on this second.

This second, this split second could define the rest of your life, but the choice is yours. Everything happens in seconds. Not years, months, weeks, days or hours. Seconds. One second can change the coarse of your life. There is so much untapped potential in a single second.

Seconds are the building blocks of time, but what makes seconds so dangerous is the fact that they are underestimated daily and discarded without so much as a second thought.

Every second counts, but people let seconds slip through their fingers and before they know they're running out of time. Like grains of sand in an hour glass. Like days sprinting by in a week, weeks piling up into months and months being hoarded into years. You can never recover a lost second.

Take a second and memorize the faces around you; you will never be at this time and place again. Look to the stars dangling in the faithful night sky and know that you are loved. Smell the richness in the air as the clouds gather. Feel the calm before the storm, the adrenaline pulsing through your veins. Feel as droplets of rain bring goosebumps to your skin. Capture a moment in a memory.

STOP.

It's not over. "The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still." (Exodus 14:14) Just breathe. Calm your heart. You are not alone, the Creator of Heaven and Earth lives within you. If the Lord is for you, who can stand against you? (Acts 5:39)

Take a second and make it count.
