Chapter 3

Ace

I can't stop thinking about yesterday. That blonde, blue eyed spit fire is still on my mind. I have never been so caught on a woman, she is different. As I sit in my office daydreaming, I am snapped out of it when there is a knock at my door. 

"Come in," I say to whoever is behind my door. Kyler walks in. Kyler is my second hand man and has been my best friend since we were young.

"Boss, we have a shipment at the docks tonight," he reports to me.

"Get it done. I want a report when you have finished."

"Ok."

"Kyler, I need you to get me a search on a brother and sister done before you leave for the docks tonight."

"What are their names?"

"Skylar McKnight and Nate McKnight."

"Ok I'll get Jay on it right away." He walks out of my office. Kyler has never disobeyed me, that's why I made him my second hand man. He knows me better than anyone, and sometimes I think he knows me better than I know myself.

5 Hours Later 

I hear another knock at my door. I have been working on paperwork the last few hours to get my mind off of Skylar.

"Come in," I say

"Boss, here's the files you wanted. Why did you want their files?"

"I don't know Kyler, my head is a mess ever since yesterday."

"I'm assuming that this girl is the reason why."

"Yes, but I don't know what to expect."

"Well I guess you just go with the flow and see what happens."

"I guess. You better get going if you want to be on time."

"Yes sir." Kyler says as he walks out the door.

I sit back down and look at their files. They had a rough background. Lost their mother at young ages, and moved away from home just last year. I wonder why they left home.

The Next Day

I wake up and have to get ready for school. I didn't want to, but finishing school all the way through college is what my mother wanted me to do, so that's what I'm doing. I am hoping to see Skylar again today, I don't understand but when she isn't near me I freak out. After seeing her only once I have this need to protect her. What is wrong with me. 

As I go to my last class of the day I remember that I have this class with her. 

"So, we meet again." the unmistakable voice says behind me. I turn around and it's Skylar. She is beyond beautiful. She has long blonde hair, deep blue eyes that hold pain. She is at least 4 inches smaller than me. 

"Hi again. Not gonna get ambushed by your brother again am I?" I ask her smiling

"I hope not, or I'll kick his ass for skipping classes."

"You worry about him don't you."

"Yes, he is my baby brother. I've always protect him growing up." When she said this it left me with questions, that I knew I shouldn't ask. At least not yet.

"That's amazing that you two care for eachother so much."

"Ya, I guess it's because of how we grew up."

"And how is that?"

"I don't want to talk about it." She says. I could hear her voice change and her bright loving aura went blue. I hated that she felt this way. I hated that I was useless in helping her. I hated that I can't take away her pain.

"Ok, well lets get to class?"

"Ya, let's go." We start walking, still talking about random things. We get through our class and talk in the halls for a few.

"So what are you doing tonight?" I ask her

"Homework then I have to go to work. After work me and Nate are going to our gym to work out."

"You guys workout?"

"How do you think I was about to kick you in your head with such power?"

"Adrenaline? Honestly I never thought of you as someone that worked out."

"Ya, we love doing it together. If you want you can join tonight."

"I'll think about it. Here let's trade numbers."

"Here." She hands me her phone and I give her mine.

"Ok, till next time." I tell her

"Till next time." She says

2 Hours later

I can't stop thinking about what Skylar told me. What did she mean by she always protected Nate? I went to my gym because I needed to punch something. Maybe I should go work out with them, it'll be fun. 

'Hey, I have time tonight. Where is your gym?' I message her

'On the corner of 5th and state. See you there :)' She replies. I continue to work out.
