There was no easy way out of her body's stiffness

There was no easy way out of her body's stiffness. Gyomei mentioned a pillar that perhaps could have helped with her healing, but was busy training up a Tsugoku now and so she'd fight through it with him instead.

Tsugoku? What was that? Apparently pillars had those deigned to train up and take their places with their breath forms. Gyomei didn't have a successor, but no one expected Sakurai to be one. She had her own breath style.

After their understanding talk, she had decided to go full out in no longer being a devout shrine priestess. She tore up her hakama and sewed it into a style she saw in town-- very scandalous, she thought, showing ankles, knees, thighs and all but she saw it as freedom. A "skirt" they called, and it retained the seven pleats of her hakama. Influence from the West, apparently, men who had very different features from the Japanese she knew. Her kosode she only sewed to fit short and flowing enough under the skirt or wear overtop another layer if she wished. Which she would in the future, seeing how Gyomei dressed.

"Why don't you buy some new shoes and socks?" Gyomei reccomended to her as he could feel the lack of fabric in her new clothing as he picked it up. Of course now she was wearing a very oversized kimono and haori for now.

She raised her brow. "Tabi socks are for the rich in my time, Gyomei, they are very expensive."

His head cocked in confusion. "Everyone wears at least tabi socks these days, they aren't expensive at all. You feet will get cold if you choose to wear zori without them. I'm sure it's much harder for you to fight in worn geta. If you are no longer wearing a hakama, it's no issue to wear zori..."

Socks? Socks? Everyone has tabi socks? Her mind was still spinning mad with out of place notions centuries ahead of her time. But then again, there were things as scandalous as skirts! Wouldn't she get cold? But she was far outgrowing the hakama.

"I must take an adventure to the inside of this "city" thing! I've only so far seen strange envoys in villages!"

Gyomei looked a little shaken. "The villages are still on outskirts but... many people speak Tokyo dialect... you speak Kyoto and for me sometimes it is hard to understand..."

"... To-kyo... what's that?"

"The capital of Japan."

It was as if someone dropped a brick on her head, her head sinking onto the table between them. "... The capital has changed? I don't understand, not at all– Kyoto is the capital! So that's why everyone speaks so weirdly? Osakan I can understand... but Tokyo? What? What?"

"Maybe I will arrange for a girl to go with you instead, so you can find what you need..."

"Need? What would I..."

A pink haired girl with green tips and a clouded look met her at the foot of the mountain, together travelling to the city. Another Hashira... and Sakurai thought it was a weird demand from Gyomei but the girl seemed extremely excited.
