Rulers of the Seven Kingdoms the Targaryens forged their way with blood and fire meany many years ago. The Kingdom of Westeros eventually accepted their rulers and bent the knee. This led to a time of peace, Summers were long and Dragons were plenty, but so were the Dragonriders. The Targaryen Kings ruled from Kings Landing a bustling city near the middle of Westeros. The Blood of the Dragon was strong and so ancient Targaryens married sibling to sibling to keep themselves clean.
The current King Valenys Targaryen's mother and father were half-siblings but they saw the many stillborns and miscarriages they had and decided to forgo the traditions along with needing to strengthen their bonds with other Houses, Betrothed their son to the only daughter of House Velaryon, themselves a close tie in to the blood of old Valyria. Prince Valenys and Lady Liliya were two years apart, the future Queen being the elder. Along with this Lord Velaryon insisted on a union between his son and a Targaryen Princess. Thus leading Princess Shaera and Lord Maekar to marry as well.

Both weddings were held at the same time at the Sept at Kings Landing, the entire Kingdom celebrated their wedlock. Valenys and Liliya both found contentment in the bond and eventually grew to love. The marriage was highly successful as they were blessed with the Queen's first pregnancy within the year. The firstborn Targaryen was Torryn who came forth into this world without a hitch, the labor only lasting a few hours. What surprised then was the second son, a twin who only a few minutes later made his appearance.
It was a blessing from the Gods, two Targaryen Princes, both strong and in good health. The next pregnancy was harder on the Queen but she survived with good care and bed rest. And lo and behold after nine months a daughter was born, the first Princess Aenira, this time they were looking for signs of twins and were expecting another babe Laedon. This time the celebrations and feasts came with a name they chanted 'Blessedborn,' four Targaryen children, two sets of twins.
The last born was unexpected and came at a time when the King and Queen were touring the lands for a year. Close to the end of her pregnancy the Queen was sent back to Dragonstone to give birth while the King continued his tour. Rhaelana was born a healthy and happy daughter but with her appearance into the world signified the last of this generation of Targaryen's.
All Targaryen children had a Dragon egg set into their crib which all hatched and grew into great beasts kept in the Dragonpit.
Maekar and Shaena Velaryon had luck with children as well bringing a firstborn son into the world Aelyx not long after the first set of twins. Years passed and finally the couple welcomed their second and last child into the world Narah, their only daughter.
The Targaryen Princes and Princesses are double cousins or cousins on both sides with the Velaryon Lord and Lady.
