Chapter 2: Tension

During lunch hour, Toshinori returned to the teachers' lounge to rinse out his, now empty, coffee cup, eat, and deflate for a little while. It was majorly exhausting to maintain his muscle form whenever he's around kids, so breaks really helped. After he cleaned his cup, he placed his pre-made lunch on the table.

Other than Yamada's comment that morning, the day had been uneventful. This caused him to dwell on that a bit.

He knew Aizawa wasn't one to wear his heart on his sleeve, but he never showed any kind of body language to indicate that he was interested in Toshinori. However, that doesn't mean feelings are impossible, right?

Even if they were, any kind of relationship would be unprofessional, and Midoriya would inevitably find out, which would make matters far, far worse.

Even so, a relationship sounded nice. It had been a while since Toshinori had a partner.

As Toshi was eating his sandwich, Yamada came in, holding an unmade bowl of instant noodles.

"Good to see you listener! Just here to cook my pasta," Yamada said, swiftly going over to the sink to get water.

"You're just fine! Microwave away," Toshinori knew that if anyone knew what Aizawa's preference was, it was Mic. He was deeply tempted to ask, but it wasn't his place to ask such a thing in a work setting.

Yamada knew Toshinori was far too polite to ask about Aizawa, but could tell he wanted to say something. Mic really wanted to speak up, but he had already meddled enough. 'If Toshi wants to know what's what, he'll ask me, or Shota himself,' he thought to himself, setting the timer on the microwave. However, the silence in the room was a little uncomfortable.

As if on cue, Shota, Midnight, and Thirteen walk in, all carrying lunches.

"Look at you guys, having prepared lunches together," Yamada said, waiting impatiently for his noodles to be done.

"Mind if we sit with you?" Midnight asked Toshinori, who was mid-chew.

He nodded his head.

Thirteen sat at the end of the table, while Aizawa and Midnight sat across from Toshinori. They quickly began small talk, which Aizawa hated, but participated in anyway. He wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the chance to talk to Toshinori. He knew a romantic relationship was impossible, but he appreciated Toshinori and wanted to be friends, at least. His therapist said he needed more friends. Unfortunitally, he still blushed a little (hopefully un-noticeably) whenever they made eye contact.

It was not un-noticeably. But, the only person that noticed was Toshinori. He also noticed Aizawa recently started perking up a bit whenever he talked to Toshinori.

Even if Shota isn't, gay, he still seems to enjoy talking to Toshi. 'We could be friends!' he thought excitedly to himself. What a wonderful way to keep a relationship professional but still relatively personal.

When lunch began drawing to a close, Toshinori had a great idea. They could go for burgers together! Its in a public location, so there's less tension (just in case Aizawa had feelings for him), and it would be a good way for them to bond. There's no harm in asking!

Toshinori stood up, inflated, and coughed out some blood.

Aizawa noticed this. He knew it was pretty normal for Toshinori, but thought he should double check anyway. "Everything ok?"

"Just fine! Hey Aizawa, I actually have a question for you, if you don't mind,"

"Uh, sure," Aizawa furrowed his eyebrows.

"I was wondering if you wanted to grab some burgers with me for dinner," Toshinori said confidently.

It took every single muscle in Aizawa's body not to turn bright red. Did Toshi catch on? Did Mic tell him? Is this a joke? What do I say? Eraser went with his gut.

"As long as we don't go to that place down the street, its terrible," He decided he's going to act as unassuming and naive as possible. For all he knows, Toshi hasn't noticed a thing, and just wants to talk about school, or maybe be friends (and Aizawa is fine with either of these).

"That's alright with me! The grill 5 blocks down has wonderful food. Meet you there at 5?" Toshi started to get nervous. Or was he excited? It's been way too long since he got dinner with anyone, romantically or otherwise.

"That's fine,"

"Perfect! It's a date!" Toshi realized what he said right after he said it. Both of them turned bright red, and Yamada (who was cleaning up some spilled hot sauce by the sink) took notice. He smiled to himself.

"Wait, no, I just mean its a plan," Toshinori stepped back and rubbed his neck in embarrassment.

"No, I got it, I'll see you later, I guess," Aizawa left the room as fast as he could.

Toshinori sighed, grabbed his things and left.

Yamada stained the teacher's room carpet and counter top with hot sauce.
