Ch. 15 "got ye now!"

Amber

We go back to the room come dawn, changing clothes with our backs to each other, so we don't soak the floor outside.

When we get done he holds out a towel to me, a little ratty but clean," et's the only one I ha've right now."

I take it and he sits on the side of his bed. I walk in front of him and lean down, draping the towel around the back of his head. The edge of it stoping at his bangs.

"Yer supposed ta be using that," he protests.

"You have way less hair then me," I tell him as I start to dry his hair gently, "it's not going to hurt any."

He looks up at me, a look of vulnerability on his face as he gazes softly up to me. It's definitely out of place for the pirate who's usually looking at someone smirking, grinning, glaring, or just not showing emotion at all. He reminds me of a puppy giving 'puppy dog eyes' with this innocent vulnerable look. But also mixed in, I start to notice, is that look he gets that I can't describe. I wish I could figure out what it is..

I smile at him as I step back, "all done."

"Yer turn," he says softly as he takes the towel off his head and holds it out.

I grin as I take another step back and shake my head from side to side like a dog, shaking water on him.

He stands up and takes a step towards me eyes narrowed.

I grin and step back, "what's wrong?"

He throws his arms up using them and the towel to block the water as I shake my head at him again, more vicious this time. My wet hair whipping across my face with a sting.

"Imma get ye!" He laughs out walking towards me again.

Every step forward he takes I take a step back. My back hits the wall and he throws the towel over my head, "got ye now!"

He ruffles my hair jokingly with it, then gently rubs the towel over my hair drying it. When he's done he drapes it over my head, making sure not to cover my face with it. The soft vulnerable and indescribable look returning to his face as he gazes down into my eyes.

He leans down putting his forehead against mine, closing his eyes, completely relaxed. I close my eyes to, sighing in content, managing to keep my panic held down. His soft breathing warm on my face.

I open my eyes to find his already open, watching me. I feel my cheeks heat up as I look into his beautiful eyes.

A knock at the door causes us to jerk away from each other as Uma comes in.
"Just letting everyone know we won't be doing anything today, so do what ever."

I rub my arm awkwardly as I know I'm blushing like crazy.

Harry's turned toward the door so I can't make out his expression. She glances back and forth at the both us, realizing she interrupted something.

She clears her throat, "that was all. Carry on."

With one last glance at each of us she grins and raises her eyebrows, then steps back out closing the door behind her.

I groan mentally at the captain. She's going to question one or the both of us about this later...

We stand there staring at the door unsure what to say or do. Finally I walk to my bed and crawl in it leaving the towel on the floor.

"I-I'm going back to bed," I say quietly.

"Good idea," he says back as he walks to his, "'night."

"Good night," I reply turning over, cursing my cheeks for still being warm.

Harry

I lay in bed staring towards Amber, who's turned toward the wall wrapped up in her blanket. Her breathing soft and quiet, like she's asleep.

I sigh as I look up at the ceiling. Dammit Uma, that was the first time I got close to her that she didn't freak out and get away. Why did you have to interrupt??

I run my fingers through my hair, I don't even know what I was thinking anyway. I wasn't going to do anything that I know of, just enjoying her being calm with me so close. I probably won't get another chance like that.

How does she break down my walls like that? Cause me to do things I normally wouldn't? How does she make me want to be the only one around her? I shake my head, trying to clear my mind, as I close my eyes.
