Eliza was helping me cook the dinner for the Marstons and Arthur went out hunting.

"Mama, this knife is pretty rusty." She handed it to me.

My hands were covered in powder from kneading dough. I nodded to the cabinet beside me and continued to knead. Silence settled in the kitchen.

"So..." I tried to start a conversation.

Eliza looked up from cleaning our dishes we only use when we have guests.

"You n' Jack... is there a thing goin' on?"

"Maaaaaamaaa. You already asked 'bout this." Eliza's cheeks reddened slightly.

"I know, I know. I'm just wandering." I smiled.

We didn't say anything for awhile before Eliza spoke.

"I'm not sure if I like him or not. He's amazing to talk to and he likes me and I think I like him but... I don't know. Just scared I guess."

"Scared?" I gave her a confused look.

"What if we end up badly? What if he ain't the one?" Eliza gave me a scared glance.

I waited a bit before answering.

"Honey, we don't always 100% know. I didn't know your daddy was gonna be my husband. I was mostly just... well that don't matter. But I probably should've prayed more and listened more. Luckily I chose right. If you ain't ready then don't lead him on false hope, that'll do more harm than good." I finally finished.

Eliza slowly nodded. I wiped my hands on a rag before grabbing the rusty old knife to throw out the door. As I did, I cut my finger on it.

"Damn!"

"Careful! You could get AIDS." Eliza said.

Bitch what?

"What?"

"AIDS. Isn't that where you-"

"No. No, Eliza. That's not what AIDS is. Don't say that..." I shake my head and cleaned my small injury.

Dumb... child.

AIDS. The fuck did she... get that from.

Arthur came back with some deer meat and he also picked a few herbs.

"Didn't know you knew about your spices." I said, impressed.

I started chopping the herbs up and then used them as a seasoning on the deer meat. I cooked some cornbread and vegetables beforehand and then I cooked the deer meat with some carrots for an extra pop of flavor.

"Love watchin' you cook." Arthur whispered in my ear.

"Thaaanks, buddy." I said, chopping the tops off of some wild turnips.

"Don't call me that." He rolled his eyes.

"Thanks, daddy." I glanced at him.

Arthur chuckled a bit before leaning against the cabinet and watched me for awhile. He had that look in his mischievous blue eyes.

"Arth... we can't. They'll be here any second." I raised an eyebrow.

"Just gonna leave me like this after that comment?" He asked.

"Gonna have to." I winked and continued to cook.

Arthur pinched my thigh as he walked by. Then... he gave me the look.

It's a look that drives me nuts. A smirk almost but he's all serious and he... ugh.

"Don't make that face." I said.

"Don't wink."

I stared at him and bit my lip slowly.

"Just because of that... you're not gettin' anything for awhile. And you're gonna regret that." Arthur warned.

"Okay, babe." I turned around to focus on my food.

As I did, Arthur wrapped his arms around me and I felt his breath on my neck. My heart started beating as he nibbled on my ear.

"I gotta go check on the horses." He whispered.

I nodded slowly.

Alright... He wants to play like that then?
