I crawled out of bed and noticed the sweet scent of pancakes. The large inhale through my nose caught my mom's attention.
"Good morning sleeping beauty." She giggled at my bed head while I'll was still rubbing the sleep out of my eye.
"G'morning mother,"
"Since it's such a big day for you, I decided to make you pancakes. I remember your dad telling me that you loved them when you were younger." She turned around and was caught off guard from the sight of me shoving a pancake into my mouth. I gulped it down and giggled at her expression before replying,
"And I still do! Oh wow- these are really good," After eating until I felt sick I slouched into my chair and placed my hand on my stomach, knowing the consequences of eating too quickly. My stomach made a wierd growl as if it was angry at me for forcing so much food in me at once. But who could blame me?
I collapsed into the sofa and crawled into a ball, huggling my knees into my chest.
"You shouldn't have eaten them so quickly, sweetheart." She said, handing me a glass of chocolate milkshake.
"Yeah I know," I replied, letting out a nervous chuckle, "But it was worth it." I took the glass from her hands, returning the gentle smile my mother gave me, not taking my mouth away from the straw until it was finished. Basically, I chugged the whole thing down.
I placed the glass next to the pile of unwashed dishes my mom was in the middle of doing, she stared at the glass that was once filled to the brim with chocolate milkshake just moments ago. Considering how large the glass was, those must have been some hefty gulps.
"Do you want me to help? I can dry them for you." I offered.
"Oh, no. It's okay sweetheart. Actually, do you mind picking up some groceries for me? The fridge is almost empty and I was planning on making some lunch for us today." The smile she gave was so genuine and motherly it made my heart melt. Not like I was going to reject her but no one could say no to that face.
"Sure thing!" I replied, returning the smile so that she knew it wouldn't bother me.
"The list, spare keys and my wallet are on the counter over there. There's a street full of shops down the road to the left." It was like she read my mind about how I didn't want to ask questions about such a simple job.
I grabbed the stuff I needed for my trip to the shops and headed out the door. I also decided that even though I had her wallet on me, I'd pay for the groceries. For all that she's done for me since I got here. You know, like food, a place to stay for the night and... Well... Being the mother I never knew I had or needed in my life.
I also bought some stationary for class and some new clothes. Shopping like this, buying whatever I want. It was amazing. So many choices and different stuff. The country side and the city are very, very different but they both definitely have their pros.
I had my music playing through my earphones while I was carrying two bags in each hand. One full of groceries, one full of stationary and the other two had clothes and a couple of new shoes that caught my eye. Thank god I had money from my dad to spend here. My dad did give my the 'money talk' and I understood, so I made sure to buy stuff that I would actually need. Not some random junk you'd find at the weird section of a dollar store. But one day I'll be a hero which will bonus in me earning cash, so not only can I pay for things myself and save lives but maybe I can pay for things for other people as well! Like, pay for mom's rent when she's older? I don't know. Dad seems like he can take care of himself. I can buy food for p/n! They're technically mine after all. But I guess that my dad buys all their stuff they're just a family pet - even if they were my Christmas present.
