part 3: reformed and amnesiac!

I wonder what could have happened to them..

you thought as steven rubs you down with a bunch of soap and water. he seems to be taking his time with you, because not only do you stink from the many months of digging through trash, but he also appears to want to kill time, as it might be a while for the gems to reform. maybe even to lower his stress levels of the current situation.. his father, greg was out there under watch of course. "you don't squirm a lot, do you?" steven asks, rinsing you, careful not to let the soapy water get in your eyes. you look up at him quizzically. why should I? it felt good! it's been so long since you've felt so clean. And as far as you knew, your previous owner NEVER washed you. Steven chuckles slightly, looking almost amused by your stare. "that's good." he sets you on the counter and wipes you off with a fluffy towel. Of course you shake yourself off as soon as the towel comes off, for further drying. after that, he steps back to examine his handy work. "there. is that better?" You stamp your paws slightly, analysing that fresh, clean feeling. You open your mouth and let your tongue loll out of your mouth, a dopey smile plastered on your face.

better? this is AMAZING!! "Bark bark!" you barked cheerfully, running in circles. no itch, no stench, no crusty feelings when I move... AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!! "RUFF ARF BARK BARK!" steven watches in a state of amusement, forgetting about his stress briefly. he picks you up and you lick his face in gratitude, eliciting more giggles from the boy.

"hey, steven! I think pearl's starting to reform!"

his eyes burst open and he gasps suddenly, and you pause your gratitude and glance over his shoulder, ears perked in interest. "come on! let's go!" he pipes as he raises out of the kitchen, to greg's location.

sure enough, pearl's... well, pearl has rising up, glowing brilliantly in mid-air. Steven sets you down beside his feet as he watched in anticipation for his friend to re-emerge. only... a holographic clam appeared around it. oh dear. you haven't known them for long, but in the back of your mind, you knew that something like that wasn't supposed to happen. after gaining greg's identity; "umGreg Universe", the clam opens and pearl reforms in a brilliant flash of light. initially, Steven was relieved to have his long time friend back, but you knew from the look on her face, she's.. not truly herself. this is further confirmed when she near enough ignores steven and walks her way to greg, introducing herself musically.. as his.. servant..? you narrow your eyes in concern. this doesn't look good.

one by one, the gems reform, all of them.. with no memories as to who they used to be. Ruby, meant to guard,  future seeing Sapphire and Amethyst, apparently faulty, as she was supposed to be bigger, but she was short. She was also mimicking the movements of people who caught her eyes. you let your head slowly drift to the side as they were all introduced musically by the amnesiac pearl. uuumm...

your attention was then caught again by the heart gem slowly raising. steven, tried to summon his shield, but of course like his bubbles, they didn't work. but to your surprise, it... rotated into the upright position, and she reformed into... the polar opposite of what she previously was!

in contrast to her spiky pigtails, she had heart-shaped buns on her head, and round, pink, squeaky shoes. everything about her was round and cartoony. especially her eyes! large, black pupils with a wedge in them, like two black pies, and 3 eyelashes on each of them. and of course on her now white shirt, was the heart up turned in the right position. and in contrast to her cruel, psychotic persona... she was... happy! bubbly, giggly! she danced in a silly way and as pearl explained, she will provide endless entertainment! she is also Steven's self-proclaimed.. best friend...?

exactly what's going on? "bark bark?" you piped rather loudly, catching everyone's attention. ruby growled at you and put her arm out in front of Sapphire, who stared at you... indifferently maybe? you couldn't tell through her long bangs. pearl had a curious, almost dopey smile on her face as she stared at you. amethyst  stared at you with a vacant look on her face before she suddenly blurted; "Woof woof!" in response.
