part 11: happily ever after!

a rush of warmth ran through you, spreading all through you, all the way to the tips of your claws, to the ends of your fur. there was a pins and needles sensation that temporarily shot through you as you twitched your leg and tail slightly. you blinked groggily and lifted your head, dizzy and confused. when your vision finally materialized, you were greeted by spinel's wide, astonished eyes, still glassy and wet from tears. "...spinel?" her pupils quivered as she reached for her. "(n-name)...?"

steven looked down, a large, relieved smile spreading across his face. "mom's tears...! of course!" he whispered, causing you to turn to him quizzically. mom's what now? "welcome back, pup!" with that he hugs you, giving a soft giggle. from there you heard cheering from everyone behind you, including a proud roar of celebration from lion. after a while, Steven chuckles and sets you Aftershock, which, you trot over to spinel, who sheepishly smiles at you. "spinel... exactly what happened back there...?" you asked, utterly lost from what was going on. spinel chuckled wearily. "I uh... I had a wake-up call, that's what happened." she replies, with slight guilt in her tone. you tipped your head to the side. "what do you-" that was when you caught your paw... which was now a bright shade of pink. you look down at yourself and was startled to see that your body had blotches of pink covering your body. what the--?! you spun around in startled confusion, realizing how much pink was on you.

there was a large patch covering your back, stretching from your shoulders to your tail. your legs were dappled in the pink, your right paw being covered in it like a sock, like your right hind paw. your shoulders had spots on either of them in heart like shapes. on your chest was a massive blotch in the shape of a heart... only... it was upside-down. and you couldn't see it, but your one eye had a large heart like blot over it, along with your right ear. "that's... weird..." you hear Steven utter, itching his head. you look up at him, equally confused. ya think!? "shouldn't (he/she) be... completely pink?" pearl asked. ...completely pink?? "well... it's been a while since I've needed to... bring anyone back to life." that felt like taking a bat to your chest. you snap your attention back to spinel. "back to life??" spinel had a guilt-ridden glint in her eyes and she gives a meek grin. "well... the injector... it kinda exploded... and you-" you lowered your head, whining loudly, having heard enough. with a sigh she stood up and backed up a few steps, shooting a remorseful look to steven. "take good care of (name), ya hear?" with that she began to walk away from you and him.

Steven offers a suddenly sympathetic stare as you staggered and took off running to her, scrambling in front of her, causing her to stop. "spinel! what are you doing??" you asked, suddenly looking hurt. "why are you leaving me?" spinel rubbed the back of her head, looking sheepish. "I... I have work to do." she says. "friendship isn't going to be easy for me. so I have to work at it." she offers you a sad smile. "But... uh... seeing that I... kinda... killed you... it's safe to say I messed up bad with you." Your mouth opens partially as she continues. "...you... you deserve a better person to restart with anyways..." you shut your mouth and stared at her for a very long time, unblinkingly. you let your head tip slightly as you stared at her deeply, kinda spooking the gem. "spinel, pick me up, please." you finally requested, firmly. confused, she complies with your order and holds you up to her face. you stare at her for a moment longer before leaning back and headbutting her in the face, eliciting a squawk of surprise and pain. "what was that for!?" she exclaimed, shaking her head to rid herself of the pain in her nose. "because. if you think I want to be with anyone else other than you..." you give her a lick on the cheek. "you've got rock for brains." you wagged your tail lightly, brightness shining in your eyes. "in case you have forgotten we both had suffered a great deal of pain in our lives. betrayed... left alone..." you trailed off, slightly saddened at the reawakened memories. "but hey. we can both tough it out together. because we aren't alone anymore. we have each other. and we have each other's backs, always." you touch your nose to hers. "because that's what best friends are for."
