Chapter Ten

Logan's POV
     Our baby was now due any day. Nine months had flown by just like that. We wanted it to be a surprise on the gender so when we went for check ups we told the doctor to not tell us the sex.
      It was around midnight one night when I woke up to find Alex not in bed. I turned the light on and knocked on the bathroom
"Alex" I said
"Logan come here" she said
"hey, you okay?" I asked
"I don't know. My stomach doesn't feel good" she said
"is it labor pains?" I asked
"maybe... I don't know. Logan I'm scared" she said
"relax for me Alex. Let me pack a bag real quick and we can go to the hospital okay?" I said
"how about lay back down for me and rest" I said as I helped her back to the bed
      I grabbed one of our small suitcases and packed a spare pair of pajama's, her toothbrush, a few magazine's and a pillow. I also packed an outfit for the baby which we had bought one in blue and pink.
"oh god, Logan!" she called
"hey what's happening?" I asked
"Logan it's the baby" she said
"it hurts" she said
"breath for me Alex" I said
"let me go get Wade okay? Just breath and try to relax" I said
       When I went to wake Wade up he wasn't thrilled about being woken up in the middle of the night, plus Levon was confused of the time too. I helped Alex to the car and her breathing was intense and labored and I could tell she was in pain
"breath for me Alex. Just hold my hand and breath" I said
      The hospital was about half an hour down the road and when we checked in they said it's be about a half hour wait
"Logan it hurts" she said
"you're doing so good" I said
"Mommy what hurts" Wade asked
"Mommy's about to have the baby" I said
"oww! Oh god that was a sharp one" she said
"breath Alex" I said
"oh god Logan" she said
        The wait was well over half an hour. It was going on an hour when they finally called us back. Wade was growing impatient and Alex was in more pain
"okay Alexandra honey if you can change into a gown for me I'll call a doctor down to check you" the nurse said
"you need help Alex?" I asked
       She nodded yes, so I put Wade down and helped her get undressed and I helped her tie the gown in the back
"Logan did you call my Mom yet? I want her to be here if she can" she said
"you relax and just try to breath. I'll step out and give her a call" I said
I stepped out to call Alex's Mom, Christina. It rang for a minute but she finally answered
"Logan! What's going on? Is everything okay? Why are you calling at one in the morning?" she asked frantically
"it's okay Christina. Alex is fine, she's just in labor" I said
"oh my god! Really!?" she said
"yea it started about an hour ago" I said
"okay. Tell Alex we will all be there soon okay?" she said
"thank you Christina. We'll see you guys soon" I said
"I've gotta go anyway, the doctor's here" I said
"good luck sweetheart. You two keep each other calm okay?" she said
"we will" I said
I went back into the hospital room and Alex wanted me to stand by her as the doctor examined her
"is she coming?" she asked
"yea she said she'll be here as soon as she can" I said
"alright Alexandra everything looks normal. You're dilated at about three right now so you have a bit of a way until we hit ten" he said
"we'll be back in to check on you every half
hour and if the pain get's to be too much, just ring this button your bed for us" he said
"and I didn't get your name" the doctor said to me
"I'm Logan, her fiancé and that's our other son Wade over there" I said
"nice to meet you all" he said
"do you have any questions for me Alexandra?" he asked
"no" she said
"it's just Alex by the way" she said
"alright. Hang in there Alex" he said
"hey, you okay?" I asked her as I went over snd sat beside her
"yea. It hurts but it's not too bad yet" she said
"you okay?" she asked me
"freaking out on the inside, but I'm okay" I said to her
"you seem okay this time" I said to her
"yea I'm weirdly calm" she said
"maybe it's because I've done this before and this tine you're here" she said
"Mommy look!" Wade said coming over with his tractor set, which I remembered to pack last minute
"wow! That's so cool" Alex said
"Mommy how long will we be here?" he asked
"we'll be here a while sweetie. Mommy's having the baby! You'll get to meet your new baby brother or sister soon" she said
"I want a brother!" he said
"hey buddy why don't we play with the trucks on the floor okay? Give Mommy some space" I said
"you can play with him. I'm okay" she said
"I'm right here okay?" I said kissing her forehead
I played with Wade on the floor until another half hour had passed and they came to do another check up on Alex. They said everything was normal, we just had to keep waiting. Her labor pains had gotten slightly worse the longer time went on but she was managing really well. It killed me to see her in pain but I knew in the end we would have a beautiful new baby
"just breath for me Alex" I said to her
"it hurts" she said as she grabbed my hand and tried to breath
"relax for me. You're okay" I said
"Alex should we get something for the pain?" I asked her
"no, I don't want to do any drugs" she said
I could tell the pain was getting worse but she tried not to show it. I was sitting beside her now and just holding her hand as Wade played by himself on the floor
"maybe try to rest. Just close your eyes for a minute" I said
"I'll watch Wade, he's okay" I said
She laid there resting for a while as I still sat beside her holding her hand. I was amazed at how she was handling everything. I seemed okay on the outside, but on the inside I was freaking out. I had no idea what was happening next or how to help her when she got really sharp pains. I did my best at staying calm and I just tried to hold her hand and comfort her. As we laid there, we were going on almost three hours when Alex's family arrived
"Mom!" Alex said turning around in the bed
"hi sweetheart" she said
"Grandma!" Wade said running to Christina
"hello sweet boy" Christina said to Wade
"how's everything going?" Christina asked me
"it's good. We've been here almost three hours" I said
"you doing okay honey?" she asked Alex
"I'm okay. The pain is getting worse" she said
"you know I don't know if Logan's heard this story yet but you were a stubborn baby" Christina said
"I was in labor for almost twelve hours" she said
"oh wow" I said
"Mommy I'm hungry" Wade said
"Mommy doesn't have food right now" Alex said
"why don't we take him to the cafeteria" Christina said
"you guys want anything?" she asked
"I'm okay" Alex said
"I'll just take a ham and cheese" I said
"alright. You two take care of each other until we get back" she said
I went back and sat by her on the side of the bed and a few of her labor pains were really bad.
"breath Alex" I said

A few more hours had gone by and Alex wasn't doing very well now. The pains were fairly intense. Christina had taken Wade out into the lobby for a while thankfully so I could focus on Alex
"oh god, Logan!" she cried as she grabbed my arm
"you're doing so good Alex. Just breath and hold onto me okay?" I said
"Logan it hurts" she cried
"I know, I know" I said trying to comfort her
I felt helpless but I tried to be there for her. It was now around four in the morning and it had been a long night already. She let out another cry of pain and gripped onto my hand
"shhh, just breath" I said
The doctor came back in again to give her another check up and said she was dilated at around eight, which meant she could start pushing soon.
"you shouldn't be too much longer now" I said
"maybe try to rest again" I said
"I can't. It hurts too much" she said
"I know but just try" I said
"just hold my hand and try to fall asleep" I said
"no Logan it hurts" she said
"I know it does" I said
She looked up at me and I could tell she wanted to cry. Her beautiful blue eyes looked stressed and in pain
"shhh, you're okay Alex" I tried to say
She finally tried to sleep which I was glad about. She had been in pain for almost five hours now. She rested on and off for about twenty minutes but then was back up. The doctor came back again for one last check up and said it was finally time. We waited a few minutes because Alex wanted her Mom in the room.
"alright you two, ready to meet your son or daughter?" the doctor said
"you can do this. I love you" I said
