"I didn't know you were taking any trainees, Dom." Siry's giant pupil turned to face the figure that was nearly as tall as the door he was standing in.Sara's eyes began to adjust to the brightness coming from the other room. She watched as the robed man reached up to massage his clean-shaven jaw.
"I'm as surprised as you are," Dom gave an unenthusiastic shrug and finally broke his gaze on Sara. "But I'm going to have to take her with me now. I've been informed of something I need to take care of immediately."
"Whatever you say, Dom. Not sure how much help this one's going to be though."
Sara glared at the eye and took a deep breath. It's just a game.
"We need to go," Dom motioned for Sara. "Follow me. We already have a situation."
Sara followed Dom, who had already started walking away and stepped through the doorway into what appeared to be a giant cathedral. Hundreds, maybe thousands of large marble columns held up an angled ceiling several stories high. Sara noticed there other robed figures sparsely scattered throughout the structure, all walking with the haste of her new instructor.
"I'm sorry," Dom stopped walking and turned around to speak to Sara. "I'm being rude. My name is Dom, and I'll be your instructor. What's your name?"
"Sara," she replied. "Sara Lancer."
"Pleasure to meet you, Sara. You'll have to forgive me, but it's been so long since I've done any of this," he sighed. "I'm going to take the initiative and apologize for everything in advance." Dom bowed slightly and smirked through reddish-brown eyes.
"I'm sure it'll be fine," Sara answered. As soon as I figure out what we're doing.
"That's good to hear because we have no time to waste. As you know, it's our job is to take care of the people of Reath. We're off to do just that."
Dom reached for a key attached to a long, heavy-looking chain that hung from his neck down to his waist. "Now, remember, when you earn your key, all you have to do is think of where you want to be, and..." he paused to take the key and insert it into the empty air in front of him. With a quick twist of his wrist, an ornate wooden door manifested from nowhere, the key now inside of the door's lock. Dom removed the key and pushed the door open. " ...There you are," he finished and walked through.
Sara tilted her head to peer into an entirely new world behind the door. She could see that Dom had walked onto a sidewalk as well as something that looked like cars zooming down a highway in front of him.
"Quickly!" Dom shouted.
Sara hurried through the doorway. On the other side, tall buildings surrounded her and reached up into a grey sky.
That thing with the key was neat, and the games AI seems to be responding well to my speech she thought as she took in the games world. Might as well finish this opening and see what this is all about. I still have to wait on that patch to finish downloading anyways. She glimpsed to her right before crossing the highway. One of the strange-looking cars caught her attention as it raced in her direction.
"What a weird design for a car," she mumbled. "It's like an antique car, except smaller?" She noticed a spinning yellow light on top. "s it a police car? Wait a second, does it see... She looked back over at Dom, who was still in the middle of the road. The car was speeding straight towards him, and it showed no signs of slowing down.
"Watch out!" Sara yelled, cupping her hands around the sides of her mouth.
"Huh?" Dom looked over his left shoulder.
