SCOTT
After the party was over, I headed for my house. Travis was taking Mitch to his house so he could pack his things to move in with his grandparents. I was happy for Mitch. I didn't know the extent of his troubles at home but I knew he wasn't happy. He showed it.
As I was driving home, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled over and read the caller I.D. Kirstin.
"Hello?" It sounded like she was crying.
"S-Scott?"
"Yes. What's wrong?"
"It's Travis and Mitch."
"What happened?"
"Travis was driving...semi...dead."
"Kirstin. Calm down and tell me exactly what happened."
"Travis, was driving Mitch. He went on the green light. A semi hit them. Mitch is hurt. Travis is dead." I gasped as she told me. Travis was dead? How could this be happening?
--------
I drove to the hospital and found Kirstin in the waiting chairs.
"Hey Kirstin." I sat down next to her.
"Hi Scott."
"How's Mitch?"
"I don't know. I haven't been able to see him."
"Is he really bad? Like with his injuries."
"I heard his ankle and foot were crushed under the dash."
"Wow. I feel so bad for him. I can't believe Tra-"
"I don't wanna talk about it."
"Okay." I sighed as I sank into my seat.
---------
MITCHI woke up and felt pain in my ankle. I heard voices around me and decided to keep my eyes closed in fear of people seeing them.
"Mitch?" It was a woman.
"Yes?" I sat up, my eyes still closed.
"I'm Nancy. I'm your nurse. You were in an accident."
"I know." A tear slid down my cheek.
"You had surgery on your ankle. It's pretty bad."
"Not as bad as I could be." I had my head down. I knew I could've died if the semi hit my side instead of, instead of-
"Do you need anything?"
"My friends. I want my friends."
"Alright."
A few minutes later, Kirstin and Scott came in.
"Mitch?" Kirstin hugged me. When she spoke to me, I started to cry. I couldn't keep it in anymore.
"Travis." I said in between sobs.
"I know honey." Kirstin whispered in my ear.
"I m-miss him." I continued to sob until the nurse came in.
"Your grandparents are here to see you Mitch." Nancy said.
"Okay." Kirstin and Scott stepped away to the side. I held onto Kirstin's hand.
--------
SCOTTThe nurse came over to Kirstin and I, "Mitch wants to see you."
We got up and went to his room. I was scared. I didn't want to see Mitch like this. I knew he was gonna be sad for a while.
Mitch was sobbing into Kirstin when Mitch's nurse came in, "Your grandparents are here to see you Mitch." I felt a cold hand touch mine. Mitch had grabbed my hand and was holding onto it. He must've thought it was Kirstin's.
"Okay." Moments later his grandparents came in. His grandma had tear stained cheeks and her eyes were red and puffy.
"Mitch." She said in a whispered tone.
"I'm alright." Was all he said. The whole time they were in there. He seemed so sad. I feel so bad for him.
I knew how much Mitch loves Travis. Travis too. He wanted to ask Mitch to marry him after they graduated. He wanted to have kids with him. Now that was all gone.
