MITCH

The new kid, Scott, was really nice. But what he said to me in choir kinda set me off. I didn't mean to make him feel bad, I'm just very touchy on the blind subject.

After choir was done, I decided to tell Scott that I didn't hate him for what he said.

"Hey Scott?"

"Yeah?"

"I just wanted to apologize for how I acted earlier. I'm not mad at you or anything. That subject is just a little touchy for me."

"I understand. I'm sorry for what I said, too. I didn't mean it like that."

"I'll forgive you if you forgive me." I smiled at him.

"Deal."

"Awesome. So, wanna eat with us at lunch?"

"With you and your friends?"

"Yes. Kirstin, who you've met, Kevin and Avi."

"I see. Yeah. I'll join you if you don't mind."

"Of course not."

--------

I found Kirst after my third period and we got lunch together. We sat in our usual spot, Avi and Kevin joined us. Scott hadn't sat with us yet. I started to think he found someone better to sit with.

Kirstin nudged me then I felt someone sit down next to me, "Hi Scott."

"Hi Mitch. How're you?"

"Oh, I'm fantastic."

After lunch Scott and I walked through the halls. I had my arm in his so I didn't run into anyone. We found somewhere to sit, "Hey Scott?"

"Yes Mitch?"

"I just wanna know more about you. Could you tell me about you?"

"What do you want to know?"

"I don't know. Maybe what you look like."

"Alright. I am tall, blond. I have blue eyes. My hair is spiked up I guess you could say."

"Are you good looking?"

"I would say no, but I've been told yes."

"You sound like you are. I bet you have a girlfriend back home." He sighed.

"I, huh, don't. Actually."

"Why not? You're a nice guy. You sound handsome. Why wouldn't a girl wanna date you?"

"I don't know. Do you have a girlfriend?"

"Nope. No girlfriend here." I didn't want to tell Scott about me yet. He doesn't need to know.

"What a shame. You're a handsome fella."

"Am I?"

"Yeah. I like your hair. It's styled perfectly."

"Thanks. My mom cuts and styles it herself."

"Well, she's very good."

"She must be."

The warning bell rang and we headed back to our lockers.

-----------

After school, I met with Scott and Kirstin. They wanted to hang at my house.

I had my arm in each of theirs. Kirst on my left, Scott on my right. I was glad they could walk with me.

We got inside my house and they decided to turn on the tv. I tried to listen to what was on, "Is that SpongeBob I hear?"

"Sure is, Mitchie." Scott laughed at Kirstin's nickname for me and I hit him on the arm.

"Ow! I like that name. Mitchie."

My phone went off and I knew who it was going to be so I picked it up before it could say, "Hello? Hi. No, I can talk." I went into the kitchen.

-----------

SCOTT

"Who is he talking to?"

"Probably his-Travis. His friend Travis."

"Why haven't I met him yet?"

"He's sick so he wasn't at school today. Be warned, he's back tomorrow."

"What?" Mitch came back in the room and it fell quiet.

"Sorry. It was Travis."

"Figured," Kirstin said. She nudged Mitch, "How's he feeling?"

"Still sick. He's still coming back tomorrow so he doesn't miss the Chemistry test."

"I see."

"Who's Travis?" I asked aloud, not really meaning to.

Mitch looked over at me, "He's my boyfriend."

"Boyfriend? As in you're dating him or he's a boy that's a friend?"

"Depends. It's both really. He's my friend, and I'm dating him."

"So, you're g..?" I decided not to ask but Mitch already knew what I was going to ask.

"Yes. I'm gay, Scott."

"I see."

---------

The next day, I was waiting to meet Travis. I wanted to know who Mitch's apparent boyfriend was.

At lunch, I found the crew and went to sit down next to Mitch. I noticed there was another guy sitting there. He had a sort of dirty blond hair and he was thin.

"Hey guys." I sat across from Mitch, and Travis.

"Oh. Hi Scott," Kirstin finally spoke. She looked over to Travis, "Travis. This is Scott. He just started yesterday."

He held his hand out over the table, "Nice to meet you." He seemed very nice.

"You too."

"So, Mitch. Are you ready for auditions tomorrow?" Kirstin asked.

"Absolutely, not. I'm nervous."

Travis rubbed Mitch's back, "You'll do great." They all returned to their lunch and we sat in awkward silence.

After lunch, I didn't hang out with Mitch. He left with Travis and I didn't see him until the end of the day. I found him with Travis, but when I looked back at them after getting my bag, they were kissing.

After they finally finished kissing, I went up to them, "Hey guys."

They both smiled at me, "Scott?" Mitch asked.

"Yes."

"Oh hey old bud. What're you up to this fine day?"

"Heading home."

"It's Friday ya know. You wanna come with us and Kirst to hang out at the mall? We may go to a movie."

"Uh, sure. Sounds fun."

"Alright. I'll call ya when you need to leave."

"Alright." I put his number in my phone and went home.
