MITCH
We went out to dinner at Chipotle that night. I was so happy to have other people, my age, to talk to.
"So you're dating a guy named Jeremy?"
"Yes. He's sweet and nice. He gets along with my friends. Right Scott?"
"Right." Scott agreed.
"Well, I'd love to meet him someday."
"Hopefully soon." I smiled at her and we finished our dinner.
--------
We went back to my place and watched movies until we got tired.
"Goodnight guys."
"Goodnight Mitch." Kirstin said to me.
"Goodnight Mitchy." Scott chuckled at his annoying remark.
"Don't get on my bad side Hoying."
"Oh. Is that a threat?"
"You bet. Even though you could probably kick my ass no problem. I heard you're one tall man."
"That is true. And you, are not."
I playfully slapped him and headed up the stairs to bed.
----Some time later-------
Scott and I have been hanging out a lot more. Kirstin has been spending a lot more time with Jeremy, but I don't mind. At least I have Scott. I heard he has a boyfriend though. But he was spending a lot of time with me, how did he have time for a boyfriend?
"Hey Scott." Scott and I were hanging out today because it was spring break and we were both lonely.
"Hi Mitch. What's up?"
"Oh nothing. I have a question for you though." I walked over to the couch and sat down. I felt Scott sit down next to me.
"What is it?"
"Kirstin told me you have a boyfriend? Is that true?"
He sighed, "It is."
"What's his name?"
"Alex."
"Why don't you hang out with him? You and I hang out a lot. You could be hanging out with your boyfriend, like Kirstin."
"But, I don't want to. He has other people he can hang out with. You, you don't."
"I don't want your pity, Scott. I don't have friends, sure. But that's my problem. Not yours. Kirstin tells me Alex is a great guy. You'd be crazy to not care about losing him. Especially because of me."
"Especially because of you? What does that mean?"
"You're wasting your time with me, instead of spending time with your amazing boyfriend."
"I don't see your point." He sounded confused.
"It's hard to find a good boyfriend Scott. Especially when you're a gay man in college. You're lucky."
"Alex isn't anything special. He's nice, sure, but that's it. There's nothing between us that anyone else could have with anyone."
"Then why are you with him?"
"I'm trying to get rid of my feelings for somebody else." He coughed quietly.
"Who is he?"
"I can't say."
"But, Scott, I'm your buddy. You gotta tell me."
He sighed, "Alright. But don't freak out."
"I promise."
"I-It's. It's, you. It was you. I don't know. I'm sorry."
"Why are you sorry? It's sweet."
"What?"
"Well, you tried to get rid of your feelings for me. I guess it's weird you have feelings for me but I won't judge."
"Why is it weird for me to have feelings for you?"
"Because you're way out of my league. You're too good of a guy."
"I beg to differ. You're amazing. More than me."
"Nuh huh. Don't play this game Scott. I'm not good enough for you. Or anyone."
"Yes you are."
"Don't lie to me, Scotty."
"I'm n-"
"Stop. I don't wanna talk about it anymore."
---------
SCOTTAfter I left Mitch's house, I went to Alex's. I had to break up with him. I was dragging the poor guy along and it wasn't fair.
"Hey babe." Alex kissed my cheek when he let me in.
"Hi." I sat down on his couch.
He sat down next to me and sighed, "What's wrong?"
"Uh. Well, I have something to say."
"You wanna break up, don't you?"
I sighed and nodded, "I'm sorry."
"I get it," He nudged me slightly, "You clearly have feelings for someone else. You and I haven't been dating all that long. You have a better relationship with someone else." He winked at me. I knew who he was talking about.
"Thanks Alex. You're right."
"I know." He shrugged his shoulders and I pulled him in for a hug. When I pulled away I left. I had to tell Mitch how I felt, for real.
