Sal shuffled uncomfortably where he stood. He twirled his thumbs around eachother. Despite the comfort Larry's room brought, Sal was clearly nervous.
"Dude, I'm so glad we can finally hang out," Larry huffed, "It's been like, two weeks? Maybe a couple days more?"
"Haha, yeah.." Sal forced out a laugh. Despite it only being a couple weeks, Larry's room had some noticablechanges. The harsh smell of fresh filled the air, which obviously came from the new paintings Larry was working on. There was a new shirt on the floor, one that Sal hadn't seen before despite it already had been worn atleast once. There was a new CD in Larry's collection too. Sal felt as if he was missing out. "Is it weird to say I missed you?" Sal scratched behind his head.
"Not at all, not at all!" Larry's eyes drifted to the opposite direction, "Though, uh, I'm still not sure why you have to keep it a secret from [y/n]." Sal froze up. He held his breath as if you would come in any minute and he would have to either find a place to hide or get ready for an argument. And Sal couldn't do arguments. "It's kinda shitty that she'll freak out at you just for having friends." Larry said.
"Not freak out!" Sal became a little bit defensive, "She just gets insecure! Besides, she only wants whats best for me." Sal immediately regretted his words as soon as they left his mouth as he could tell it left a bit of a sting in Larry's side. Although, Sal was really just repeating what you said to him.
According to you, "what's best for Sal" included not hanging out with any girl friends outside of school. Sal was hesitant to give up Ashley, and the two of you came to the agreement that as long as Larry was there with them they could hang out. But then Sal had the misfortune of being there when you found out Todd was gay.
"Sal! How could you?" you whimpered, "You've been with Todd alone with him! In his room!" beautiful tears dangling at the corners of your eyes shimmered in the light. Everything you did was beautiful. You looked beautiful when Larry caught on to how you were treating Sal. You looked beautiful when Sal held you in his arms after Larry confronted you. And you looked beautiful when you politely and cutely asked Sal to no longer see any of his friends.
"Whatever," Larry sighed. He could only fight for his friend for so long, and Sal knew this.
"Wait," Sal proclaimed, "Could you help me break up with [y/n]?"
The next morning was blanketted with fog and grey clouds. Despite the weather, you cheerfully settled in front of Sal's locker. In your arms you held his homework as well as a lunch box you prepared just for him. You hummed a perky tune and awaited for your dear Sal to arrive.
But when he did, you could feel your hair stand up on your arms. Larry was with him. Something ticked in your head. A crackle of something. It nudged you away from your cutesy self, and for a mere second you could feel something unsettling begin to erupt from you.
However! You cooled down as quickly as you heated up. You forced a smile to spread across your smooth-as-silk face.
"Hiya, Sally Face!" you giggled, "It looks like someones following you!" you refused to make eye contact with Larry, but everyone knew who you were talking about anyways.
"Oh - right," Sal instinctively turned to shoo Larry away before realizing why he was there with him in the first place.
"Sal.." Larry poked Sal's ribs with his elbow as a reminder.
You felt that twitch again. How dare that lanky rat of a man touch your Sal. Your fists tightened, but your smile remained stiff on your lips.
"[y/n]..." Sal began.
"Yes, baby blue?" you batted your eyes. Though at this point it was more menacing for Sal than anything. Beads of sweat dripped behind Sal's mask. Even through his poor eye sight, he could see that you were one wrong word away from snapping. He froze.
"Let's break. Up. I'm breaking us up. Uh, we're not - let's not date anymore." Sal was a stammering, jittery mess. But he did it. Larry was in a defensive stance, making sure you wouldn't do anything.
But you didn't do anything. You stood there silently. That forced smile on your face was now breaking down. The two boys stared at your unmoving, stiff body. Larry even wondered if you heard Sal at all. Eventually, your eyes regained focus and you processed everything you needed to process.
"Okay!" you shrugged, "Whatever makes you happy, darling!" And with that, you gave Sal his homework and lunch and then walked off to your first class.
"Dude," Larry let out a long breath, "I can't believe how smoothly that went,"
"Yeah" Sally's voice shook with various emotion. Relief, fear, guilt, shock.
Despite Sal's friends reacting rather celebratory, Sal couldn't shake the intense guilt shaking through him. Both Larry and Ashley were getting touchy-feely with Sal at the lunch table. Larry rested his arm on Sal's shoulder while Ashley hung onto his arm. Even Maple and Chug were paying Sal extra attention, excited to finally be able to talk to their good friend Sal once again.
It was all too close for your comfort. You felt your psyche break and snap through out the day. You couldn't focus on anything in any of your classes. All you could think of was your plan to visit Sal after school.
Short, jittery Sally Face dragged his own feet into his apartment after school. Even though all that weight was lifted from his shoulders, he still felt heart broken somehow. Sal made his way through the clean apartment towards his room to drop off his backpack before heading down to Larry's bedroom on the basement floor. Though upon opening his bedroom door, Sal let out a small squeak before covering the eyehole in his mask.
"[y/n]?!" Sal shrieked, "What are you doing here?!"
A pleasant sounding giggle rang from your lips as you posed dramatically on Sal's bed. It was the first time that Sal saw you in your underwear.
"Oh, don't act so surprised to see me!" You had to speed out of the bed and pull Sal into his bedroom before he could turn around and run away. "Afterall, I know you only broke up with me because Larry told you to,"
Sal silently stared. He didn't want you to get the wrong idea, but he wasn't sure what you'd do if he corrected you. You forcefully shoved him onto his bed, so that his feet dangled off the edge. Climbing on top of him and sitting up on his lap, you grabbed his hands desperately.
"We can be together though, Sally Face, we can!" you cheered, "Once we get rid of them, I promise!" With great joy, you wrapped your arms around him and kissed the lips of his prosthetic mask.
"Get rid of who?"
But you ignored him and began kissing his neck. Despite sitting on his lap, you couldn't feel anything getting hard. You decided to reach up Sal's shirt, but you only felt his soft skin for a second before he slapped your hand away.
"[y/n]! We're not getting rid of anyone!" Sal shouted.
"Of course you'd say that, you're so compassionate! But we have to if we want to stay together!"
"[y/n]! We broke up!" Sal's voice started cracking as he pushed you off of him, "I don't want to get back together!" The silence in the room felt like static against your skin, though it was soon interrupted by Sal's sobs. "Put your clothes on! Please!"
You frowned at the sound. You had tried everything to keep this boy in your arms, but it was too late.
Without warning, you reached into the your bag and jumped towards Sal with a small pocket knife. The knife sliced Sal's throat, but not as deep as you were hoping. Blood danced down his neck, but he still had the energy to make a run for it.
Jumping towards Sal, you knocked him down onto his knees. You held him down and could hear he was struggling to not panic. Blood was gushing from his throat onto the floor. You climbed onto his back and sat near his shoulders while he shook on the floor. Sal was no longer using his arms to try to escape and was only focused on trying to stop the blood from pouring from his neck.
"Sorry, Baby Blue," you whispered, kissing the back of his head. Your knife cut deep in the same spot it did before, allowing the rest of the blood to drain out. "I love you"
