"He's late again," he sighed, shaking his head in disappointment after taking a glance at his wristwatch. "I'll be taking your attendance for today as well."

After he finished calling out everyone's name from the list and ticking them, he randomly stated, "I should be the teacher since Mr. Jeong is rarely around." Then smiling cheekily, he added, "Whoever calls me 'teacher Seonghwa' will get a candy."

The class became so quiet that crickets could be heard chirping from a distance. "Mingi, stop making that sound."

"Okay."

With sulky shoulders, Seonghwa asked, "Why don't you just say it for the sake of my happiness? Why don't you all like me?"

"Because you're a noob in Roblox, unlike Mr. Jeong, who has like a million Robux," a brunet chirped, causing the class to erupt into laughter. "It was so embarrassing to play with you the other day! Why does your avatar look so retarded? I'm serious, this guy wears a bacon hair!"

"Yeosang, if you don't stop talking," Seonghwa paused to think, "I'll scream."

"Okay, sorry."

A knock was heard on the door all of a sudden, grabbing all their attention. Seonghwa hoped that it was the teacher because he couldn't stand his classmates anymore.

The door slid open from the other side, revealing a tiny, lost looking kid, instead of the teacher. He was clutching a notebook to his chest, so tightly, as if his life depended on it.

"Oh, hello kid," Seonghwa greeted, quite disappointed that he wouldn't get rescued anytime soon. "Are you lost? I can take you to your class. Which grade are you in? Fifth or sixth?"

Without answering his questions, the boy just walked inside. His light brown hair, which was similar to the bark of an oak tree, tumbled with every step he took. He stopped and handed him some papers, which was signed by the school's principal.

Looking through them, Seonghwa nodded. "Oh, so you're a new student." Then with an eye roll, he added, "The author really had to start this book with a cliché."

Once more, everything became quiet and crickets could be heard. "Mingi, I swear, if you don't stop–"

"Okay, I'm sorry."

Seonghwa turned back to the new student, and they both shared an awkward smile. "Sorry, that was very lame. We shouldn't be breaking the wall because that's Jongho's job."

After a solid one minute of pure awkward silence, Seonghwa remembered that he should let the boy introduce himself first. He gestured towards the blackboard and mumbled a quiet 'go on'.

The brunet nodded and turned to look at the students with a smile that almost lit up the room. But he got only a few in return, which made him slightly upset.

Letting out a sharp disappointed exhale, he flipped his notebook open, causing gasps and murmurs to fill the air. The classroom became a rowdy discussion center for the students, as everyone started talking all at once.

Except for one individual, seated at the very back of the classroom, who wasn't able to read a word from the notebook. She soon had to give up on trying, as her thick glasses refused to help her.

"That's enough," Seonghwa stressed, moving the papers around. "Silence please."

He scanned the class for an empty seat for the boy, and luckily he found one. "You can sit there," he suggested, pointing at the place.

The newcomer took a glance where he pointed at, and his eyes automatically fell on the girl who sat on the seat next to it. There was something about her, that gave off an 'interesting character' vibe.

Her hair was cut short like a boy, and was brushed backward. It looked like a forest leaden with snow, as the blonde dye on it had faded, and dark roots grew beneath it.

She played with her pencil, not paying any attention to him as he walked towards her, as if he was invisible.

He sat down on the chair and accidentally dragged it too hard, producing a loud screeching noise, and making the majority of his new classmates cringe.

"Don't ever do that again, understand?" the girl hissed, glaring at him through her huge glasses, and threateningly pointing the pencil at him.

After not getting any response from him, she muttered under her breath, "A tape face. How annoying."

She shifted her attention away from him, until she felt him tapping on her shoulder.

When she turned around, she saw the brightest, and the purest smile on his face. As much as she hated to admit it, she had to agree that his smile shone brighter than her future.

The boy flashed her another smile before he stuck a small piece of square paper on her table.

"Oh, it's a note," she said in a monotone as she plucked it off.

« i'm deaf. :) »

She looked up from the paper to find him twisting the silver ring on his index finger, avoiding to look at her.

He did not look like he was joking.

Grabbing her pencil between her fingers, she wrote a reply below his note and repeated his action.

« Oh well. That was probably written in your notebook. But I couldn't read it because your handwriting is too small. Like you. »

He flashed her a look, that was mixed with confusion and disbelief as if that was the most offensive thing he ever heard.

« i'm not small and neither is my handwriting. you're just stupid. :( »

And that was the moment she knew that he was one annoying child to deal with.

« Tell me your name so I can add it to my death note, you small brat. »

She purposely highlighted the word 'small' and expected him to start crying. But instead, he broke into a bigger grin, much to her annoyance.

« kim hongjoong.
what's yours? i mean, i want to add it to my death note too. »

She was a little annoyed because he copied her, but at the same time, she wasn't.

« Jeon Jaeyoung.
Let's die together then. »

{ A/N: Jaeyoung is a tomboy!

Also, since it was hard to tell who was sending the notes to who in the first draft, I decided to do this:

Small letters - Hongjoong (because he is small uwu)

Normal letters - Jaeyoung

Anyways, have a lovely day/night! Love you ~♡
